Might watch Dustin brown

Eurosport player are showing 2 matches - Dustin's match and Di Wu vs a random Aussie. I'm currently just following the scores on Bet365 without watching, Norrie won his first set 6-1. Ah, shit, forgot, these will be best of 5. I'm so used to the men's being best of 3 for the last 4 months.

It's best of three. Only qualifying round that's best of five is the last one at Wimbledon.

It's good to see Heather Watson taking a bit of form into next week.

Hopefully Cam Norrie comes through his next couple of matches as well.

Getting closer now . Qualifying already started, women's to start from 11pm.

Draw live on Eurosport tomorrow at 8am and that's when hours of studying and placing of bets will occur :).

Djokovic apparently looked good today in his comeback match so is expected to play. Muguruza though pulled out of Sydney after visibly struggling past Bertens, would be a huge blow if she were to withdraw from the AO . Sabalenka with another straight sets win though and through to another quarter final, beating the number 1 seed in Hobart, exciting times.

Always love a Grand Slam and while it's generally by far the worst for the UK audience, because it is 4 months from the US and and 4 months to the French, it always feels a very important event, even though it is probably considered the least prestigious slam.

You'll be getting that void mate, she withdrew 3 days ago due to her ongoing custody battle.

It's a well matched field in Hobart now. Tsurenko is actually a slight favourite to beat Sabalenka in the QFs tomorrow but I reckon it'll be a Sabalenka vs Mertens final.

You seen the draw tough one for Edmond

Probably the best draw in years in terms of fun R1 matches on both sides. A Grand Slam semi final from less than 18 months ago in R2 on the men's side as well.

Value on the bottom side of the women's draw. Svitolina, Goerges and maybe Coco.

Section 1
Halep probably should come through but a lot of potentially dangerous contenders in there. Barty vs Sabalenka is one of the ties of the round IMO and Giorgi while often reckless has the power to trouble anyone and has been in very good form this week. Can't really write off Kvitova either as we saw at the US Open with good wins over Garcia and Mugu.

Section 2
We said the same at the US Open and it backfired, but the first 2 rounds look OK for Konta (obviously we don't know a potential qualifier in round 2), but she might come unstuck in the 3rd round vs Strycova. I'd probably expect Ka Pliskova to win this section, beating Strycova in the L16.

Section 3
Loaded with big names and GS winners / runners up - Mugu, Kerber, Radwanska, Sharapova. A couple of prospects as well in Vekic and Vikhylantsova (although I'm currently watching Vekic 0-6 1-5 down to Watson in Hobart). Hard to call how Mugu will be after pulling out of Brisbane and Sydney through injury, so poor preparation. I can see Kerber coming through this.

Section 4
Wide open. Mladenovic is in shocking form, so despite being 11th seed, we can probably rule her out of being a legit threat. Can see a Keys vs Garcia L16 clash with Garcia coming through. Watson has a decent chance of making R3.

Section 5
Really hard opening draw for Venus, one of the match ups she wouldn't have wanted (Bencic). Goerges is in top form and on something like a 15 match winning run including 3 titles so she will have to be favourite to come through, but Makarova and Mertens will be within a shout.

Section 6
Good draw for Svitolina. A US Open repeat vs in form Siniakova in round 2 looks her biggest threat but after that I don't see much competition with next highest seed Stephens in shocking form, 7 defeats on the spin since US Open triumph. Kasatkina is too inconsistent to be a legit threat and don't really see anyone else troubling her.

Section 7
Not too bad for Ostapenko. She isn't in great form, but should be able to make the L16 I reckon. I can see the winner of Kanepi vs Coco taking this section though, hopefully not the former.

Section 8
Ideal for Wozniacki (@alexander), couldn't have asked for a kinder draw really. Bertens is poor anywhere apart from clay and it's just really Pavlyuchenkova who might be a threat. The surface here is a lot faster than she likes, but despite that, I would be very surprised if she didn't win this section.

Halep vs Barty
Strycova vs Ka Pliskova
Muguruza (just about) vs Kerber
Keys vs Garcia

Makarova vs Goerges
Zhang vs Svitolina
Ostapenko vs Kanepi
Pavlyuchenkova vs Wozniacki

Venus vs Bencic. Barty vs Sabalenka. Kanepi vs Cibulkova and Sinakova vs Sakkari look the pick of the first round matches IMO. Maybe Kumkhum and Lapko but other than that, I don;t see many qualifiers coming through and shaking up the draw, although one or two randomers will inevitably have a run e.g. Martic at Wimbledon depending on where they end up being placed in the draw.

Out of curiosity how come you are backing Kerber in section three ?

Going to have my usual, sneaky lil' GS betting slip on our Caroline to lift the trophy and feeling a bit more optimistic than normal, too.

Signs that it's looking like 2016 Kerber rather than 2017. She won all 4 matches in the Fed Cup the other week and has just made the semi's in Sydney Premier including beating Venus the other day, so that's 7 wins in a row and a few decent wins in that period (Bencic, Mertens etc). Plus as i say, Muguruza's health is a doubt. Radwanska is a bit inconsistent these days and I'm still not convinced about Sharapova since her return and if she can put 3 or 4 big wins together in a tough section. Definitely the standout section in terms of big names though.

It's good to see Stan and Novak in the draw, could face each other in the quarter finals.

Yeah, massively helps the draw in terms of appeal. I don't have as much knowledge of the ATP, but there are some decent looking first round matches - Rublev vs Ferrer, battle of the teens in Shapavalov and Tsitsipas. Zverev brothers could meet in round 3.

It's generally pretty well balanced as well. You have Nadal, Kyrgios, Dimitrov and then Djokovic, Federer, Wrawinka, Zverev and JMDP. Actually looking closer at that, depending on how Novak and Stan get on the bottom half does look a bit stronger, but there's potential for a young'un to do damage in that top half, including Edmund if he can get past Kando, as Arkle says.

What happened with the qualification games put a few bets on they were meant to start at 11 but haven't seemed to

Rain delay marra. Meant to be shit weather the next 2 days. When it comes to the tournament proper, they have 3 courts with roofs so should always get play regardless.

It's a rain delay in the tennis but Melbourne Renegades are playing Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash cricket just now. Does the MCG have a roof?
