By my reckoning, he'll lose 180 points from the Aussie Open as he reached round 4. Not sure what he loses for other tournaments played before the Aussie last year but, assuming he only loses 180 and assuming everyone else stands still, he'd drop to 19 in the world. Of the Slams, if he misses the French, that's his biggest ranking loss.
I forgot he lost in the 4th round last year, I thought he got to the final. Although once you drop out of the top 4 in the world, ranking don't matter too much (apart from qualification for year end finals) until you drop out of the top 32 in the world.

Probably once again most of the media attention will be on the women's tournament, especially if Serena does play.

Sharapova has had a few more tournaments and was won a title rather than pretty much rushing back for the US Open.

I assume Azarenka won't play though despite taking a wildcard.

She might have pulled out as a precaution. She was serving very well (didn't get broken) and should be confident. I actually think Svitolina will will win the Australian Open.

She's a bit like Zverev where she has a few masters 1000 equivalent titles and is a very talented player but hasn't backed it up yet in the slams. Never been beyond a quarter final and usually goes out in the fourth round and she is much better than that. Strange how at least in men's it's different in that it's best of 5 rather than 3, but no real difference in the women's. She did have 2 tricky last 16 ties at Wimbledon and US Open and really should have beaten Keys. I hope she does well here, just wish she had a bit more power.

Belinda Bencic is on absolute fire at the moment. She beat Vandeweghe in the Hopeman cup in straight sets today to make it 18 wins on the spin and this week has beaten Coco, Pavlyuchenkova and Osaka. She is a fantastic re addition to the women's tour after a nightmare 18 months or so with injury.

Simon winning in Chennai (or whatever it's called now) beating Cilic and Anderson back to back is a surprise.

Looked completed finished last year.

Just catching up with the tennis now that the football is finished, not bothered with the Chelsea match. Got the WTA Brisbane and Shenzhen finals to watch and currently watching the Hopman Cup final but just saw that Kyrgios come from a set down to beat Dimitrov to reach the Brisbane final. I like both, but an in form Kyrgios is always good for the game (IMO) especially going into the Australian Open which should give the home crowd a big boost with Murray, Serena and (to a slightly lesser extent) Nishikori pulling out. Plus Novak more than a possibility as well.

I see Mladenovic got beat again  her ridiculous downward spiral and Garcia's upturn in fortune has been really fun to watch over the past nine months.

Hiring Janko Tipsarevic as well, it's like she wants people to dislike her.

I take it you don't like her! Dominic Thiem is her boyfriend, only found that out yesterday.

I'll keep an eye on the men's tournament's and I'll record all the WTA Hobart and Sydney tournaments on BT and then watch the matches with players I'm interested in. Love BT but unless their is British interest, they just tend to show the matches on centre courts which usually just feature local lowly ranked wildcards so will skip over a lot of that.

Will be watching most of the Aussie Open though the following week and very much looking forward to it.

Yep, she had a great week in general, winning all 4 of her matches and pretty much carried Germany to that mixed doubles decider as Zverev lost 3 of his 4 single rubbers. Good to see her back in form and hopefully we'll see more of 2016 Kerber rather than 2017.

I won't be putting any bets on until I see the draw (which I think is on Friday), incredibly open again.

Oh, I'll also be watching a bit of the Aussie Open qualifying which Eurosport will be showing from Wednesday.

I will be as well I'm very much a late night person anyway so timing of games will be ideal

The more Stephen's plays the worse that US Open win becomes. Beaten 6-3, 6-0 in just over an hour vs Giorgi today in Sydney, most of those games were to 0 or 15 as well. She still hasn't won a match since the US Open and has just one set in that time as well, will be pushing 10 games now. Shite.

Did you say Eurosport has the qualification games on

There's one or two courts with their qualifying matches broadcast on Youtube through the Aussie Open challenge IIRC. Guessing it'll be the court with Mahut, Wu, Tomic and Fritz v Groth playing.

Can't stand her! one of very few that I dislike. Hiring someone who openly says he hates women's tennis is a bit of an interesting move as well.

Yes mate, you can also stream every men's qualifying match on Bet365. Cameron Norries first round match starts at 11pm. He is the top seed in his segment so hopefully joins Edmund in the main draw. L Broady also in action, around 1am.

Women's Q draw is tomorrow and I assume that starts on Thursday (or Weds night UK time). Boulter and N Broady involved there.
