Sunderland squad not fit for purpose in this division

As the title Sunderland did not have enough players physically or mentally ready for the slog of Championship football at the start of the season.

To even have any hope of competing at the top end of the division will take a major rebuilding job and (on Sunderland's budget) a lot of bargain hunting over a few transfer windows.

Kone, Rodwell, O'Shea, Matthews, Oviedo, Gibson, Ndong, Cattermole and quite a few of the younger players were and are not fit for purpose at this level.

How some Sunderland fans think this squad is anything but relegation fodder is beyond comprehension.

As it was Sunderland appointed the man for the job, a manager with a proven track record of building strong teams on a shoestring budget.

But based on a poor start and a couple of poor signings (always going to happen when signing players on such a budget) chased him out after a few months.

Give Coleman time (2 - 3 seasons) and Sunderland will be back in the premier league.

Chase him out also and years in the doldrums as Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Man City etc await.
What you say could well be true but that doesn't excuse Grayson's poor record which as I've stated before was worse than a team who were banned from signing anyone.

I'd wager this isn't the only thing you find that is beyond your comprehension.

Magnets for example, how do they work?

If Coleman had been in since the start of the season things would have been different IMO. The October run was the most favourable run of fixtures in my lifetime and Simon totally blew it.

Grayson was utterly useless. Unable to organise or motivate or organise the team to a clean sheet. Also thought it was ok to throw players under the bus and snipe at the lifeblood of the club, the fans. He's a bit of a snidey coward.

and the sad fact is, most were signed to play in the Premier League and on Premier League wages

Think that’s the crazy thing.

Tbf Catts and O’Shea are both big reasons we stayed in the Premier league so long. Both good servants up to this season for me, along with Larsson - 3 good eggs we could never replace despite trying umpteen times. Their attitude, commitment and ability we couldn’t improve upon in over half a decade in the Premier.

However Ndong, Jones, Matthews, Love, McNair, Kone, Gibson, Oviedo and Rodwell were signed for top flight football, never delivered and now cannot deliver in the championship.

With everyone fully fit and motivated, we should easily be top half (I know that's a big "if")

Ruiter
Matthews Browning Kone Oviedo
McNair N'Dong
Watmore Williams McGeady
Grabban

Steele, Wilson, Gibson, McManaman, Rodwell, Maja, Asoro

That should more than a match for most teams in the league. Sadly, injuries and players not giving a shiny shite have contributed to the position we find ourselves in today.

Grabban, watmore only players who can consistently play a decent level. Everyone else is fuckin garbage. People who disagree are deluded. If grabban does go back to Bournemouth we are fucked

Thanks, but I think you should be concentrating your energies on getting Mr Grayson, a job. Perhaps be a little bit more honest about him though.

and basic balance

team full of slow weaklings in general

who would have thought theyd struggle in the championship??!

You nailed it in two words marra

Spot on Vic. There's some who still argue we've got one of the best squads in this league. It's clearly not the case

One of the most highly paid perhaps, but that's as far as it goes. If bags of sugar (!) cost £1 each down Jackie White's, we've paid £10 for some of ours that are arnly half full when you open the bag, then wonder why nee fupper wants them, even for 50p

Bunch of tossers mate. We sold on our best players and kept arsewipes like Cattamole and O'Shea.

I could dig me dad up and he'd be faster on the pitch than J'oS.

He's been working on his speed (no, not like Orfa's Towkeeow) behind closed doors in a pet shop on Roker Baths Road. To make it fair, his opponent is carrying a shell on his back

The problem has been paying too much in wages and giving average players very long contracts. The recruitment of players and the negotiations of their improved contracts is killing the club.
Where is the justification of the players given 4-5 year contracts on the basis of a few good games? Why have the improved contracts been handed out like confetti? Why not wait we have a £10M offer for a player before they up his wages? E.g. Cattermole has a contract til 2021. His wage demands will essentially scare off any would-be clubs wanting to sign him, not that they would have any reason to. Now Ive got the horrible feeling Cattermole will succumb to the same fate as Rodwell, languishing in the squad picking up his wages, not contributing to the team. His presence will become more and more contentious with the fans as the team struggles. Yet the players themselves seems oblivious to the plight of the club, because they personally have made it. The modern footballer so detached from the fans who watch them, have also became detached from the very thing that elevated them in the first place........i.e. wanting to play football and be a footballer. The mercenaries that has became the norm in the game. Sunderland has became the retirement home for once decent footballers biding their time till their punditry careers' take off.

Our next 5 games are favourable
8 points at least needed from them.

He didn't really snipe at the fans though did he?

Could be argued that the players in fact threw him under the bus with their disgraceful attitude and performances.

He didn't throw the players under the bus though did he.

In fact Gibson's comments about SG since the sacking were very unfair given how Grayson treated him after his drunken outburst after the Celtic game.

The players in bold would not get near any decent championship team.

If you think a midfield of McNair and NDong is heading anywhere other than League 1 you haven't a clue pal.

And Grayson still as manager as it’s not his fault?

Cattermole and N'Dong would walk into this present team.
Ndong is a shit house, refusing to go to fan signing sessions and been a all round prick who thinks he is too good to be at this club as well as feigning injuries. Good riddance to him when he leaves in January.
