How long can Rafa last?

To be fair janey only the easily carried away social media type expected us to go and push for Europe. The same dafties that expected us unbeaten last season. The squad, as most real life people i discuss football with knew, was in need of a good striker and a quality creative midfielder at the very least. Paying £5m for a striker in this market gets you Joselu.
Paying £12m gets you a championship winger he could’ve kept Gouffran and signed a £17m striker ... Rafa  He could’ve saved £5m by keeping Anita and not signing Manquillo .. Rafa

I agree, the squad is weak, Rafa has to accept some responsibility, I think that’s what makes Sunderland fans laugh. The moonie like support of him, from many.

Once we got the goal until the end of the first half we were massively second best but I thought we shaded the first half and deserved a draw (but that’s all).

Classic sucker punch though but those are the fine margins at the top level.

Do you think tactically he is now behind the times and incapable of changing with success?

Back in the summer before the end of the window i was saying 10th-12th with about 46 points was possible but the quality players needed in certain areas didn't arrive and its clear now we are playing to stay up.
Obviously games against man united, chelsea etc. you accept as a defeat but the likes of Bournemouth or Watford at home you have to be looking for wins.
Despite this run of 6 defeats and a draw in the last 7 games, it still looks like the commitment and work rate is there, we're just crap. Some players are selected as there's no alternative

No.

IMHO for what it’s worth is that you rightly, to a certain extent, have bought players to get you out of the championship. Unfortunately the vast majority aren’t fit for purpose in the Premiership and you are saddled with them with the wages and contracts they are on. You are caught in a viscous circle. I admire your honesty btw , not one of the snidely, sarcastic mags who add nothing to a discussion but try to bait people

No.
So whats the problem then?

Anita was a CM playing at full back on about 40k per week. Don't think he'd be willing to take a wage cut to stick around when he wasn't first choice.
I can see the logic there in letting him go.

The usual mags have posted on here with none mentioning Rafa

His selection of Joselu (a shock as it was) seemed justified with him scoring so early but he was shit after that.

He’s to blame for not playing Mitrovic (only marginally better than Joselu) and Shelvey’s absence from the side (I’d give him a go as a #10 if he doesn’t trust him in a midfield two).

Anita kept Yedlin out of the side for half or more of a season in the championship playing RB ? Yedlin is a poor PL fullback as is Manquillo would keeping Anita have been that bad ? £5m wasted IMO

It’s almost as if you’ve ignored the whole 40k point he was making. Which also feeds into your ‘spending £17m on a striker’ suggestion. We wouldn’t pay the wages of a striker that would command such a fee.

Aye the likes of Manquillo will only be on £7k a week you stupid **** keep on defending

He’s wasted a fair bit of the £95m he’s had

Lets be honest most mags on here have backed themselves in to a corner regarding Benitez. They've all been dragged in to this ideology that he's some kind of super manager and can do nothing wrong.

He's a good manager his record proves that but to make him out as some kind of superhero type manager is f***ing embarrassng and cringe worthy.

I have to admit though as the defeats get more regular their excuses for him get funnier and funnier

You’ve obviously missed me criticising him above, aye?

Incredible how you only see what you want and get angry at that
