It doesn't appear as if the consortium are going to be throwing money about like confetti, which tends to suggest they actually would be better off with the cheaper option. We've got rid of most of our overpaid knackers. You on the other hand will be stuck with yours. :lol:

I agree, she is a shrewd businesswomen, no way is she going to be dictated to by Ashley. You either accept the offer with its clauses or you don’t. Which puts you lot in limbo with transfer funds and your current predicament

Ours is a relatively cheap rebuilding job. A year of consolidation has now turned into a get out of the shit in the second half of the season. Then see what next year brings, consolidate or push on towards the playoffs or automatic promotion, who knows.
They on the other hand will need to feed a hungry cheque book manager in January to keep him happy or face him walking. Present form suggests their current squad is ill equipped for the relegation fight they are quickly sinking into. And all this on the back of an already inflated asking price which appears to be £100 million more than on offer.
I think buying Sunderland for £100 million would be a much better long term prospect.
 
to be fair to Ashley, when they have needed it (the January when they got sissoko/ not selling their assets the first time they went down/ the 8070 million spent in the last relegation season)
he has always given the manager big funds

but then seems not to when they should (spending 34p on Vernon anita after finishing 5th-why not spend 80m then???), and to some extent, this summer when they had feel good and momentum

I think if Ashley does not sell he will give them 30-40m in january

He will need to in order to keep the possible takeover alive and make it a viable proposition

A cheaper option that is in the relegation zone of the 2nd tier and thus much further from survival in the Premier League, and one that is in a shambolic financial situation?

I cannot fathom how you'd think Sunderland were a wiser investment.

  • How much external debt would a new owner need to clear?
  • How much would it cost to build a squad that delivers promotion soon?
  • How much would it cost to then build a squad to deliver Premier League survival?
  • How much would they need to put in before they saw a return?
  • What is Sunderland's ceiling with a realistic investor?

Well you’d probably need £250m to get Newcastle top 6. You can get Sunderland in the premier league for less.

Newcastle got into the top 6 for considerably less than £250m under Pardew. And if we could manage it with an average to poor manager, a squad of mercenaries and so on, I'm sure a good manager with a committed squad would be able to repeat it.

To be honest though, it shouldn't be about usurping a team in the top 6, that's unrealistic, it should be about swelling that group of sides at the top to a top 7. Get some distance between us and the rest of the league.

Might cost £250m over a few seasons, but the majority of that would be paid for by tv deals.

Getting Sunderland into the Premier League for £100m is reasonable, how much to make them a stable Top Flight side? another £100m? Watford have spent over £190m in the past 3 seasons. And the gap between Premier League and Championship finances is only ever going to grow wider.
