Pros for buying SAFC vs NUFC

Depends what you want I guess....Sunderland is primed and ready for a revolution and for somebody to make themselves an absolute legend as an owner.....Newcastle is on a hiding to nothing unless you have the really big money to throw at it like the Arabs as massive spending in the Prem will buy you mid table these days.

Which bit do you disagree with? If it had been last year and you were in the position we are now I would have said the same thing the other way round....There is no money to be made in NUFC, it has a full ground, relatively large revenue streams and unless you spend massively then there is no way to add value to the football club. Given the huge purchase price you will spend big to stand still as other than the top 6 (not going to happen) then you are about as high up now as you are going to get.

Buy Sunderland cheap, spend what is needed to get promoted and promotion into the big league secures you the TV money and huge increases in revenues......Buying any football club is a risk, there is only one that it likely to make you money......Lets be honest, if Fat Mike cant turn a profit at NUFC then few will as there is one thing that lad knows and that is the bottom line.

I disagree with the following
  • Better ground (we'll never agree on this)
  • Little doubt you could buy the Championship with too much trouble (Aston Villa spent £75m last season and still failed)
  • Fanbase. Your gate revenue (going by recent published figures) would still be significantly lower than ours even if you did sell out
  • Sunderland are not primed for a revolution at all, you are bogged down by a number of unsellable assets on long-term contracts and have a manager in place that seems to be woefully underqualified for a promotion push. Newcastle on the other hand are already in the Premier League and have a young squad led by a credible manager.
What price do you think you would be able to buy Sunderland for? How much would you need to get promotion? Would you trust Simon Grayson with that level of funding to get you there?

As for your last statement, 'Fat Mike' has turned a profit a good few times, even when we were relegated. Sunderland on the other hand have made around over £100m in losses in the last 10 years.

There's just so much nonsense in your post, man. And we're supposed to be the deluded ones.
 
Big money would buy Newcastle as the city has had some investment as is alright in parts. Sunderland as a city has had no investment and is looking a bit rough to say the least.

Newcastle is easier to get to as it's on the inter city main line and there is no connection from Durham to Sunderland which is a disgrace.

I would say our stadium is better and can be extended easily, I think they would struggle to make theirs bigger, hence they were trying to move to the town moor not so long back. I seem to remember signing a petition against it.

We have won more league titles and therefore have the greater history.

I think they main problem for them is that fat mike is trying to jump ship as the vat man is after him. I really think they could be in bother over that and any buyer might be scared off.

Both clubs are having the same problem of getting in players as it's not in the south east.

I reckon because of this vat thing we have more chance of being bought, otherwise it would be them as this current time.

Not sure about the ground mind matey, the SOL is a dump at the minute.
 
No half measures with the Scum, they're either smug ***** when they're winning with rivals like Manure or complete blame culture if it goes tits up with bedsheets, mock funerals, jawdee cliches and equine/wheelie bin bothering. Ask Ashley if it's worth the f***ing bother to buy 'more than just a club'
 
from a business only view...i guess the mags as things stand are by far the greater attraction simply due to crowds and league status, the down side to that is that it will be a lot harder to turn the investment into a substantial profit, something that realistically could only happen with top 6 finishes and european football almost guaranteed every season and everyone knows just how hard it is to reach that goal now.

as an investment, sunderland is by far the best bet, mainly due to a very possible doubling of the crowd, far less will need to be spent to improve the clubs standing, once in the premier for a few seasons then the asking price will rocket (the next step will obviously be similar to the mags or any other team bar the top 6) but the difference could be that the land fill can not be increased in capacity, iirc they went as far as they possibly could to make sure they had a bigger capacity than the SoL whereas the SoL has the potential to increase to a 60k capacity.

so, as already said, it really comes down to what a buyer will want...it seems many of the rich just want a football club to play with and want the prestige of it being a premier league team, losses do not overly concern them as they have more than enough money to replace any losses through interest they earn on other money...but these days there are also a lot of consortia who like to find a potential short term/huge profit investment.
