More investigations for the mags from HMRC?

It cost Scottish football a huge amount of money & prestige, very brave by the SFA.

The PL would be setting a huge precedent if they fail to administer an appropriate punishment.

I am not 100% sure, I seem to recall the other clubs having a say in the punishment. Not sure if the EPL constitution is that much different to SPL.

People are just having a cheap laugh at your expense man, don't get the bedsheets out over nothing
Yep, I'm distraught, my light hearted post backs that up.

Look at this thread man, you're all whipping each other up into a frenzy. Citing Rangers as if the circumstances are the same

It's a bit of fun, I'm not in a frenzy and I haven't seen anyone who is ...... putting a smiley on your posts doesn't mean you're right btw.

I notice you have nothing to say about the thread topic, only other people ..... do you actually have an opinion?

You're right, it's closer to Swindon's situation to be fair. Remember that? When you lot finished third and wanted to replace them in the top division, except that I think I remember this happened in the play offs

There looks like there was something dodgy going on for a few of our transfers and it's not a great shock given the owner and his cronies. However I can't imagine that Newcastle are unique in trying to get around UK tax laws (or tax laws of other countries for that matter). Charnley isn't exactly a shrewd operator  Sounds like there's a particular French agency involved so they've likely tried it on with other clubs.

If that's the case I'd expect this investigation leads onto the investigation of other clubs' transfers. The more clubs that are guilty of it the better for us. The bigger the clubs involved the better still.

I reckon if we're found guilty, we'll get a fine from HRMC, and possibly a fine from the Football authorities. I'd be shocked if we were given a points deduction, but even if we are it'll surely be less than for going into administration. Certainly we wouldn't be kicked out of the league system  .

I'm not stressing about it at all.

Avoiding tax it is one thing, having your ground raided and your managing director arrested is something quite different.

If that had happened to us, we'd ALL, to a man, think we faced being kicked out of the league. Richard Scudamore has previously said he'd look to deduct points in the event of financial irregularities at any club in the Premier. It's happened before and points deduction seems to be the norm rather than the exception. They may well get away with it, but if it's as bad as is being speculated in the national rags, then they'll be meeting us sooner than they think

Not all perhaps .... but I get the feeling the first to post it would be the same ones claiming the Mags will get nowt but a slap on the wrist ;)

At the very least HMRC will want any money they are owed if it’s say 10% of the £500m worth of transfers that’s £50m, plus a fine say £5m. The fa fine them say £2m.

The FA fine is on the never, never.
HMRC however will be like “we want out money now!, what’s that you don’t have it?” They will then file a petition to have the company wound up.

Just ask Rangers. They do not piss around. It’s not like owing a company money HMRC don’t give a shit. Barry at HMRC just needs to get this shit of his desk. For him getting the money or closing a company is the same. He then just picks up another folder hopefully labelled Man City or cheslsea.

That's the truth and the HMRC is full of ladder climbing back stabbing career people who'll stop at nothing to get another tick in the box.

I know a lad who started out at the customs in Dover, an absolute animal when it comes to his job ..... zero empathy with his 'victims'.

He reckons they lock up around 200 people a year for tax evasion.

It would surprise a few people if they knew what powers they have as well, much more than the police in my experience.

HMRC penalty (fine) is up to 100% of the amount found to be owed.

If it's truly £500 million worth of transfers then it'll be the biggest tax evasion investigation in football history? (I will happily be corrected if it isn't). There will simply be no way the FA will ask for a couple of million, I don't see how they wouldn't face expulsion/a massive points deduction. We're all being cautious in our predictions because it's the Mags but I never thought for a second Adam Johnson wouldn't get away with it and I never thought America would elect a sociopathic TV personality, so the out of ordinary is far more common than you all think. Any club facing those sort of charges can wave goodbye to whatever league they're in IMO.

If guilty

Aye they are all cautious predictions on this thread like.

Ha!

All predictions are based on people's personality and faith in their own expectations. Newcastle fans are being protective and hopeful of limited punishment. Steve30000000's unrelenting depression and cynicism makes him think they'll be fined 42p and awarded automatic entry into the Champions league. My naive optimism is telling me you'll end up out of the football league.

In reality though, if everyone looked at the facts they know of now and the criminal accusations being made, openly by the HMRC, that club are in a lot of trouble, come what may.

Love to see Charnleys little slap head peering our of the bars while some rather large chap is applying Vaseline behind him :)

The wind appears to be blowing in the direction of a major criminal prosecution. The football authorities won't be ignoring that, like I say the mags would make the perfect sacrificial lamb.
A bit like we were in 1958.

If it was ManYoo, Chelski, ManCiteh, the Bindippers, the Gooners or the Red Sea Pedestrians, it would be a fine and a slap on the wrist.

What’s the bets one of the dodgy agent payments is for that lad who the mags insist we paid for his flight. In which case we probably did but in hindsight lol

That's a very likely outcome as Ashley would save his own skin and drop him like a police horse.

A jail term for proven systematic organised tax fraud, from a professional who can't plead ignorance, is almost certain.

Even clients, who blame their accountants, aren't likely to escape serious punishment.

Governments live entirely on tax and don't like to having anyone 'stealing off them'.
