Rafa. He's still not happy

Liecester won the league, Wigan and Portsmouth won the Fa Cup fairly recently, Swansea and Birmingham the league cup. Yet two clubs the size of ours are always struggling are arguing with each other over who's least shite.

Log in as CattsforLife again or have you forgot the log in details :lol:

I am getting it, you don't want to say how Rafa did in the market over the summer. It's been obvious since the start of the discussion.

For what it's worth I can't understand why he paid ten million for Murphy and 5m for joselu. You seem to have loads of wide players all of roughly the same standard and he doesn't seem to think Murphy is a better bet than any of them. So why not forget about Murphy and joselu and spend that 15m on a better centre forward when it's been obvious (in my opinion) that goals were going to be a problem with the system you set up with.

Couple of things;

Murphy is obviously a signing for the future. But the way Benitez has us set up we need pace and some guile on the flanks. As it stands we now have 4 (3 1/2) wide men that can do that job. Prior to Murphy's signing we had Ritchie, Atsu and a perma crock in Aarons. The market dictated the inflated price for an English attacking player.

We also needed a player who could hold up the ball as we switch from defence to attack a job that Gayle cannot do. A job that Mitrovic could do, if he wasn't a psychopath. Hence Joselu.

Thus far Joselu has scored once, but has played fair-to-good in the games he's started. Playing less as the goal-getter, and more like a targetman. Emile heskey-lite

Can you think of many strikers that are; a physical, mobile targetman, who link up play and score a lot of goals?
Can you think of any who meets the stated criteria, that Newcastle could afford given our niggardly owner and the inflated market?
Now, can you think of any of those remaining who would want to join a newly promoted side so far from the capital?
Now can you think of any of those who our inept director could get signed to a deal?

Is Joselu going to score 16 goals this season? Unless he hits some Cisse/Jelavic early form, most definitely not, but short of spending £30m odd, it's unlikely we'd be getting anyone that can.

To help you along, here's a list of players who got more than 10 goals last season; which or these could Newcastle United sign, who would do the job we need of a striker?

Harry Kane
Romelu Lukaku
Alexis Sánchez
Kun Agüero
Diego Costa
Dele Alli
Zlatan Ibrahimović
Eden Hazard
Joshua King
Christian Benteke
Jermain Defoe
Llorente
Heung-min Son
Coutinho
Sadio Mané
Jamie Vardy
Olivier Giroud
Roberto Firmino

Another mega long post from the mega bell

It would be embarrassing if, instead of refuting the point with some decent debate, people just resorted to shit insults.

Thankfully that isn't prevalent too much on here...

Is it safe to come back on this thread and gloat...? ;)

The lads seem in turmoil, my own lads team (u7s) not doing well either, and I can at least find a crumb of comfort from the mags losing.

Anyhow, as it seems the mags losing may be the only way I get to enjoy football this season, thanks for today, and in the spirit of not taking everything so bloody seriously whilst the political world is erupting around us, I hope you lose every remaining match this season.

My thanks, have a like

The money now is scary and both us and the Mags are way down the pecking order when it comes to being able to compete
Thanks for this....

I might have a slight issue with your lot, as you do with mine, but we are both in a completely different economic league. Neither of will ever compete at the top again so we are left with each other...

All we have left are memories of times that have passed us by...
