The state of the City centre

We don't help ourselves with this parking problem, yellow lines plastered all over, more permits in place, putting prices up in the car parks... "come and visit from afar"
"why?, we can't park anywhere, and the places where you allow us to park, you demand a kings ransom per hour, fuck that."
While I agree that 'some' parking restrictions need to be in place otherwise lazy twats will just take the piss, paid parking has become a cash cow for underfunded councils to generate revenue. This is resulting in less footfall on the highstreet while councils use year on year gaining of profit to fill their coffers.

It's not the city centre to blame, it's the state of most of the people who shuffle round it! Miserable, overweight, callow, unkempt....etc
Because nice people with money go elsewhere.
Its a circular argument.

Living in Peterlee, I expect a shit town centre, but the people of Sunderland are being massive short changed by theirs.

i honestly think its past the point of no return, especially as older people die and the footfall is not replaced with younger people who shop almost exclusively online. maybe the nightlife could pick up if a scene of some sort develops, perhaps a major development similar to durham on the banks of the wear.

The town is canny bleak like. The council need to make business rates as little as possible and encourage little independents to set up shop

We will never attract big retailers like John Lewis or Fenwicks and should leave that stuff to Newcastle

The town needs to contain all tat, betting shops and charity shops to blandford street, keep the bridges as high street as possible, maybe add a few chain restaurants

High street west needs carpet bombing and new residential and office buildings need building. Need some call centres and stuff in town to increase foot fall of youngins with a little bit money

Down round Sunniside West and that end of town needs to be all independent shops, restaurants, bars, dance studios, art studios, record shops, community projects and spaces, that kind of shit. They should also encourage the skaters and yoofs to hang round there again instead of putting them pegs all over the street furniture to stop skaters skating

There should be on the spot fines for people wearing flossys in this day in age and other poor fashion choices like fat lasses in bright leggings and smart shoes with trackies.

Parking should be free or a flat rate of £3 a day or something, I sometimes base myself in the office in Sunderland and have to shell out £10.40 or somat in the bridges to park all day, piss take in all seriousness asking those prices for parking in this city, no the wonder people use dalton park, the metro, boldon cinema and Nando's etc

Why would you willingly pay £10.40 to park all day the moan about? There was cheaper options. Could have got a metro in from the SoL or Milfield, £3 odd for a ticket.

Very few people want to stay for more than 2-3 hours, all day £3 parking is only for the benefit of a few.

I was on holiday in Newquay a few weeks ago and got talking to this young couple who were camping next to us. They said they were going home early cos it was better at home and there was more to do, I asked where they were from, the reply was.... Wolverhampton :)

Newquay is shite like (the town that is) to be fair.

It's £1.30 per hour at the main multi story near the cinema. A £3 cap would benefit people who stay all day there.

As I said in an earlier post , Sunderland city centre in parts looks like Peterlees big brother.

You're not forced to drive into town though. Having all day parking for £3 is ridiculous and would be cheaper than public transport.

Parking is almost always cheaper than public transport like. It's not like for like. I went to Newcastle last week and paid 70p per hour.

He wasn't upset he raised valid points. You quoted the most expensive parking when you can park for £3 a day not £10.40. Won't park on gravel tracks what kind of precious princess are you.

It's not that I won't park on gravel mate haway man, it's that I won't park on that specific spot next to the civic cause of numptys misusing it and blocking people in so you can't get your car out for hours on end til people move which I have experience of, people park ridiculously close together as well, there's less chance having your car damaged in a car park than on that gravel patch it looks like there's been a tsunami, cars all over and no room to move

What I'm getting at is that the town offers nout that you can't get somewhere else; the retail parks, dalton park, metro centre etc all have better shops and free parking so free or cheap parking would at least be a small incentive to attract people in

The car parks are rarely full anyway in my experience, don't see the issue in a £3 all day cap which would benefit those who work in the centre and drive and be less of a barrier to drivers in general

I think round olive street, tunstall terrace, west sunniside and park lane should be 1 hour no return as well instead of just loading or pay and display so you can park up and pop in places and be away

It's ironic that we have a stinking mess like the OP criticizing Sunderland, when they probably lives in some shit tip like, Byker or Benwell, the way these fuckers go on you'd think they all lived in some flash pad in the center of Newcastle, they don't, they live in some Victorian hovel on the banks of the Tyne, couldn't think of any thing worse.

Full time complainers who just..........complain.

Expect everyone else to do somet.

Perhaps they should stand for the council and try and get somet done.

It's easy to criticise, not so to actually make something positive happen.

The charity shops are shite mind.
Are there any nice ones?
