OK, allow me to explain.

You're judging him on what he did at other clubs, under different circumstances, with different budgets, ethos, etc.

He won trophies at other clubs, as Bobby Robson did ..... all he's done at Newcastle is take the club down, bring them back up and end up with a much worse squad.

Bob Stokoe is better than Benitez, as far as the club is concerned, because he won us a major trophy.
 

I think he's sold the shit or bust narrative that if he doesn't get the big spendz you're going back down potentially. If that's right then he's cataclysmically mismanaged the signings since he took over, but if it's wrong then what the fuck is he playing at creating the toxic atmosphere? Especially at a club as volatile as Newcastle.

Fact is many teams have come up and been competitive or even stayed up with their championship squads largely in tact, none of which cost (even with inflation and football transfer fee mentalness) anywhere near £80m to cobble together as Rafa has spent over the last 12 months. To want to spend another £20m-40m is f***ing ludicrous. He should have done far better at managing that squad with this point in mind.

Another element here is that AFAIK the cash is actually there, they just can't spend it. He's being a dick for no reason. Thats why he's frustrated, he's realised that Newcastle will not get the players he had at Liverpool/Chelsea/Inter/Real/Napoli even with the money.

Won European trophies and managed to keep us up unlike Rafa.
