Anybody use to use internet chatrooms back in the day?

Would never admit it to my mates at the time as the internet was just taking off in late 90s/early 2000s, and talking to other people on it was seen as weird. Especially if you were bringing a lass out with you who you'd met on there, just have to make up a lie and say she's a student or something along them lines.

Found out about lots of good bands and films and other stuff that I'd probably have never have heard about through other people on there.

Good stuff back then

yep.. a place called Chathouse and I used to frequent one or two rooms.

it passed many a nightshift.. got bloody addictive too
Definitely addictive.
I used the freeserve/wanado one quite a bit, and also tried Lycos for a bit.
Used to spend hours on them. Once had a fortnight off work and spent more or less my whole time sat on there. Ridiculous.

I used to chat to this lass called Minx67 from Fresno California.. few of us on nightshift would be logged on and they were nearly all American. we would have a right laugh

Was bizarre like, but an eye opener. You'd have regulars in the same room who were in a long distance relationship after meeting in there, and then one lass dumped a lad and went out with somebody else in the same chatroom. Back then i never knew people could be so ridiculous.
The internet definitely brings out the mad side of people once they have that veil of anonymity mixing with other anonymous people.
I used to like being awkward and winding people up, and PMing the lasses then adding them to msn and trying to ride them

nme forum but that was about it
Tried that but it was a bit full of people who seemed like they cared a bit too much

You need new mates

Was an admin on one of the Bravo TV ones probably 16 years ago. At that age was a proper power trip, still keep in contact with a few people from then now and again, mainly on Facebook.

What you think this is

Was actually a troll thinking back. Used to go on one called Chatropolis must have been late 90's. Mostly Americans. But would be three or four of of us all sat next to each other over at St Peters campus conspiring ways to wind them up usually involving 'Nam - "you weren't there man!"

We must have had no money for beer.

Also discovered this place then too.

Don't think I've been on a 'chatroom' since the old speakeasy on here died off. Used to use it for match days as an exile.

Posh name for a chat room

Like environmental hygienist posh name for a road sweeper
No, because with a chatroom the whole thing moves together, and everybody contributes to the same thing. A forum has designated threads for different topics, some of which stay active for weeks or months and can be bumped back up. On a chatroom, once it's gone then that's it. No pulling up quotes from somebody from 2 years ago etc. There's a major difference.

Back when trolling was cool.
