I think you are confusing enjoyable with succesful.

Both clubs are pitiful really but we were last club to be succesful.

Playing in champions league blowing a 12 point lead and losing multiple finals :lol: were enjoyable for your fans but they werent succesful.

Thats the 68/69 league table, and we won the 68/69 Fairs Cup.
Newcastle played in the 69/70 Fairs Cup as defending champions alongside Arsenal(who won it), Liverpool and Southampton.

Newcastle knocked Southampton out in the last 16 of the 69/70 competition.

In the 69/70 season, Newcastle finished 7th and qualified again, alongside Arsenal (defending champions), Leeds, Coventry and Liverpool.

Southampton qualified and participated in the year they finished above Newcastle

This is all a little puzzling.

I think, from memory, that Forest finished below Newcastle but 'qualified' for the Fairs Cup.

Do you know why that was?

I'm not particularly wanting to go anywhere with it.

It's a long time ago and when I've checked the qualifications, tables etc it doesn't exactly match up to my recollections.

66/67 season forest finished 2nd to man United and entered the 67/68 Fairs Cup.

But in the 67/68 season they finished below Newcastle, and that's when Newcastle first qualified (for the 68/69 competition)

Aye you're looking at 67/68 league table,and its telling you that they took part in the Fairs cup in the same season(based on the previous seasons performance). Can see the confusion as it should instead have 'qualified for 68/69 Fairs Cup' next to Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds, like it does for West Brom, Man United and Man City.



The second table is better put together as it tells you where they'd be competing the following season. Not sure why the first one mentions the european competition they played in in that same season

  1. I'm not implying it was a cake walk, I'm refuting your statement that we limped to promotion. It's just not backed up by anything at all.
  2. Even in that cherry picked fixture we were clear of 3rd place, Huddersfield needing a win to get within 2 points of us. Huddersfield who went on to finish 5th.

The 2nd point reminds me that through the season we were told that Villa were going to catch us, Leeds would, Fulham would, Reading would. No one did.

That's not true.

He failed to keep us up, Sels, Lazaar were transfer missteps, he was too pragmatic for my taste at home. That said he delivered automatic promotion, at the first time of asking, Clark, Gayle, Ritchie, Hayden, were all very good signings, and his pragmatism delivered more points than all but 2 previous Championship title winners (so who am I to complain?).

Ironically the world isn't black and white as you seem to suggest.

5 of our first team didn't want to play in the Championship, and the remaining squad would not have delivered automatic promotion. Of course the squad needed an overhaul, it's churlish to suggest otherwise.

Your squad needs an overhaul, so did Villa's.

Stats dont tell the story of a season. At that point you were stuttering with no wins in 3 and the team couldnt handle the pressure. It was the middle of April. If Huddersfield cut your lead to 2 points in that evening game you were in big trouble. Obviously they didnt but you can argue all you like I could trawl the forums after that game and many of your fans were saying youd blew it.

You limped to promotion as Huddersfield failing to put on pressure gave you breathing space. Then Villa had to help you win the league. You werent exactly comfortably strolling to promotion like we always did.

League table shows Man Utd being 4 points clear scoring more goals than Nufc and conceding fee goals. As we all know though you blew a 12 point lead :lol:
