Just checked, I knew there was a specific reason that year, thought it was political.

" The 1968–69 season of the club tournament was won by , who beat 4–1 in the , giving Milan its first European Cup title since 1963, and its second overall.

A number of clubs withdrew from the first two rounds when paired up all of the Eastern European clubs against one another."
More dilution !

Well Budapest and Lisbon were enjoyable.
It was nice going there as WINNERS of a major domestic trophy as well, not that you would have any experience regarding that.

Oh aye... I remember it really took the gloss off the occasion, sitting in Nou Camp, feeling like we shouldn't be there after only finishing 2nd in the Premier League.

In the season Newcastle won the Fairs Cup they had finished below Southampton in the league.

I wonder how many Mags. like NU72, know why Southampton didn't compete ;)
Go on then, enlighten us pls

No idea.

You're really gong to compare a few pre season games with champions league games???

My earlier point was that at least we had a go, showed some ambition. The highlight of your last 40 years is two 7th place finishes.

.... and 6 in a row before somebody mentions it.

No but I will compare who last won anything and I don't think it was you

When you say Southampton didn't compete, what season do you mean? They played in the 69-70 fairs cup.

I'll stick with who's had the best of the last 40 years. That definitely is us.

On what basis, remind me, who has won most in that time. Let's be honest

I'm waiting for one of them to post a photo of their trophy frame
