A sad fact of football nowadays is that with the top 5 or 6 clubs able to throw money around at players like it's the monopoly stuff, the rest of the clubs, particularly in the premier league are struggling to justify spending at least double or triple what a player would have been valued at as recently as say 18 months ago. I can understand why nufc haven't done anything of note, yet, in their transfers, as they'll be getting quoted daft money for players who might not even be as good as the existing ones. It's shameful really and surely unsustainable.

The football bubble will burst soon. How long can the stupid TV money be sustained before the likes of Sky are close to goign bust. Look at someone like Maguire going to Leicester for £17m and Keane to Everton for £30m. Its crazy money and cant continue, as the only massive winners are the leech agents taking their cut

There's not even value to be found in the Championship though. Norwich demanding c£20m for their winger is a good example.

Just one of those windows where the issue comes as much from the market as it does from Ashley failing to follow through on his promises. It also seems to be the case that the moneymen are twisting over contracts. The lengthy Lejeune transfer negotiations could only have been because our side was penny pinching?

It seems like Ashley (or rather his advisors) are expecting there to be more value towards the end of the window. It's a risky gamble and a gamble we can't afford to take imo. The squad as it stands is more likely to get relegated than stay up, and paying £5m over the odds for someone now would be mitigated by the £100m we get for surviving.

With respect though even if you stumped up 13 million or whatever for the Norwich lad its a complete gamble.

It looks like a deal to me that could make Newcastle more money down the line if hes successful rather than one for instant impact, which in itself is strange as Benitez will want results immediatley.

I don't blame Norwich though, they obviously don't need the money and would prefer to hold onto the player. If a club wants him, they have to make it worth their while before they entertain a sale. You did the same thing with Sissokho last season, granted Sissoko is a French international but you were in a position whereby you could have kept him if you wished.

What's happensd to Aarons? Is he still blighted by injruy?

The extra money pumped in by the new TV deals, has seen players and agents better off, but relatively no club is any better off, they receive more money, but every thing costs more. Just means there is a longer way to fall if any one "does a Leeds". Bound to see a few clubs go bust in the next 15 years.

All that money in the game and it's just seen to the rich getting richer. Clubs still charging daft money to fans for tickets and general amenities around the grounds, whether it's been worth it I don't know, only the old fogies could say if they think it's measurably better now than it was before sky invented footy in 92'.

Does Sky product actually improve the game for anyone. Not a chance the premier league is the best league in the world mind. The richest maybe but nowhere near the best in any terms

The PL has been very weak in all of this, bowing down to the top clubs and making sure they keep them happy. They have only helped but create a very uncompetitive competion. It's not about winning trophies any more, it's about earning as much money as possible.

Teams don't really care about winning domestic cups as the PL is the be all and end all. They would rather rest their playings in cup competitions, knowing they have a PL game to play in a few days. The whole thing stinks and it won't change until fans collectively rise up and say "enough is enough". It has got to become more fair. Why should teams be at such a disadvantage against the big boys every seasons? The wealth should be shared, the top teams would be nothing without teams like us, as they simply wouldn't have had anyone ro play!

If we all cancelled sky and stopped travelling to their stadiums in a form of protest, it would at least be recognised. Until then, nothing is going to happen.

Murphy is exactly the kind of player I thought Ashley would be keen on. Young, English, with a potentially huge resale value. Think he could do a job for a promoted side in the Premier league mind.

It's always been this way, if you want to buy and they don't want to sell you're going to pay over the odds, but the sums are now exponentially increasing. £20m on a Championship winger is madness. Couple of years ago £20m would get you the finished article.

Sissoko deal is an aberration, imo. He'd been shit in the league but had a decent Euros, so we weren't that bothered about keeping him, and he definitely wanted to leave. £30m bids from Everton and Spurs was madness on their part. I honestly think Ashley was just chancing his arm when he rejected the £20m bids and had those clubs held firm I think Sissoko would have gone fore significantly less than he did.

Better example is Carroll, we didn't want to sell, last day(s) of the window, Liverpool wanted to buy, hence the inflated sum.

Aarons is training, but the poor lad is made out of spun sugar, he'll be sat on the treatment table beside De Jong before the season starts. Shame like because he works hard when fit, looks like he's got the technique too. Doubt he'll be the same prospect now though, the injuries will have damaged his confidence and his explosive pace will have been lessened too.

I don't think we'd have released our young, English, top scorer in the last few hours of the window for that small a sum. Their bank balance definitely weakened their negotiating strength though. If they'd come in earlier, before Torres left, with a bid of around £17m we may have been more open to discussion. £35m on the last day though... hard to turn that down.

was talk about this on talk shite other day, saying how long will sky want to pay billion's when viewing figure's are falling & that even his granny could download kodi, people are sick of price's going up & up / not being to watch there team. without footy sky is nowt, if sky reduce there next bid, someone may bid higher but who wants to invest when people are starting to watch for free.
