Hopefully if he played less games than DM did it was because another striker was doing the business rather than him being injured. Played with the manager before so h knows what his workrate is and we have nee cash--have to back him!

There is no comparison tbf but Whitehurst always boosted my spirits during bleak times with his heart and effort. Worthington although past his best was pure class. They both got my juices flowing albeit for different reasons.

My mate had Whitehurst labouring on railways, skint, 8 year or so back. Imagine a player doing that now.

He's 29 year old - ended up at Bury after being on a downward trajectory for years - and on the assumption that he'll probably sign a three year deal here - the lad must be rubbing his hands together that we've come calling with a last big pay-day for him.

Chuck a questionable attitude into the mix, and I say this has all the hallmarks of a being a typically bad Sunderland signing.
