Our current squad better than the mags

At least two of the promoted teams will comeback down.

Happened last season and if Burnley had not won 9 home games and safc had not given up in august, it could have been the lot

New to RTG, so I'll have to find out how to get there first:p
It's over there ----≥

I really don't think there's much in our team
last year and theirs this year. The one thing they'll have is a good spirit following promotion. I fully expect them to struggle and the fans will turn on Ashley again (not wor Rafa and his signings cos he's mint).

They were 9/4 favourites to win the league last year with pretty much the same team bar that new French defender. We have lost our best 2 players from a disastrous campaign and are 16/1 9th or 10th favourites to win the same league. While it doesn't tell you everything, it should give a pretty good indication of where our respective team / squads were heading into life in the second tier.

We are pretty limited as it stands and will need significant changes if we are to threaten the top 6, let alone win the league like they did.

I'd probably have Oviedo in a combined team and reluctantly Kone but that's more to do with those being weak areas of the mags team rather than them being particularly good. Haydon and Colback aren't great so perhaps a fully fit Catts as well, but after that I'm struggling.

Window has been open for 9 days and these threads start.
Both teams have some major readjusting to do.
Them up the road are no longer big fish in a small pond and unless they spend serious money they will struggle. I remain unconvinced by few 's coaching abilities tbh. Despite the insane money they spent in the pub league they were far from convincing.
We are venturing into the unknown after a disastrous relegation with a low manager and limited funds. For me defoe will be the biggest miss. If he is on the pitch you always feel there is a goal in him. Given how often we lost and lost badly I don't believe pickford will be as big a miss as many think.
At the moment we don't seem to have anybody to 'light' up the team with a bit of inspiration. We look dour and workmanlike. I hope there is more to come.

By the end of the window aye they should be better, lens and khazri better that what they have no?
We finished bottom on 24 points, since then by far the two best players have left. The players that remain are mostly shite. If you genuinely believe we're better you should put a months wages on the 16/1 that's available.

As shit as we are we would still muller the scruffy bastards.

It's what we do
True but they would finish higher in the league.

At this stage - we have a better team. They have a better manager. I am on about players and first 11 as it stands, not how the team is managed or tactics etc. Is this too difficult to comprehend?

As it stands?

Well, you've lost two of your best players, two players who would definitely have been ahead of their Newcastle rivals for a starting position in a joint 11. As it stands you don't have a senior striker on the books and while Mitrovic, and Gayle aren't world beaters, you'd have to be properly biased to suggest that having no striker is better than having them.

It's not really a fair comparison. Wait until the window shuts when you've got your team and we've got ours.

Absolute shite. Their squad is miles better than ours.

I genuinely dont think there is much in it. Which is a worry for them considering we finished rock bottom and 8 odd points adrift.

Another way of looking at it is that the majority of their current squad took 37 points in the prem in the season before last, despite being managed by McClaren for 28 of 38 games. With the loss of Defoe and Pickford, a combined side would now likely have more of theirs than ours (seeing as the op has alluded to player to player comparison being primary concern), but the biggest difference will definitely be in organisation and tactics. Where a team finishes is as much about that than the actual players at their disposal. I still can't understand why some clubs spend so much on players and neglect the coaching side. You've only got to look at Bournemouth for an example.

As most have said, a post best left for 31 August when the full squads are known.
