We're after Daryl Murphy according to Chronicle

Considering they have just won the league where we are going into next season averaging more than 2 points a game (one of the highest points hauls in recent years), a league where we are currently NINTH favourites to win at 14/1, then there would be a lot of their squad / team who i would take.

Gayle has just scored 25 or so league goals despite being injured from most of February onwards. We currently have Defoe who is very likely to go and Anichebe who most don't want to offer a contract as he is very rarely fit so yes, I'd take Murphy for a year as well. I'd take Yedlin as he was solid for us and a good contribution to our late run in the 2015/16 season and IMO better than Jones (although I don't necessarily think Jones needs replacing). I'd take Clark, I'd possibly take Darlow if Pickford left. I'd take Hayden, possibly even a Perez and even Atsu - they obviously liked enough of what they saw in this league to go ahead with the £6m move. Forgot about Shelvey as well, who i think is one of their better players and featured in the Championship team of the season.

We are heading into the Championship on 25 points, a manager most don't like and a seemingly bad core of players who hopefully most will be off. Our last home game was played in front of about 20,000 towards the end where we hardly mustered a shot on goal. Theirs in contrast was played in front of a full house, fans chanting their managers name and they ended up beating a team who were 2nd 5-1 despite having 10 men for most of the game. While most of their perceived mercenaries where playing for a transfer away (they made £75m from 4 players), ours are supposedly faking injury. A lot can obviously change over a summer - manager, owner, we could get a crazy bid for Pickford etc, but the contrast in relegations is massive and as it currently stands, this isn't a particularly attractive proposition for potential players.
Hate to say this but I agree, it's horrible.

That's not just Newcastle mind, I'd also take Stockdale (if Pickford left), Dunk, Stephens, Knockaert and even Murray from Brighton (considering the striking situation and he is very likely to get goals).

Not sure what he was like for you lot the first time, but he was good for us. Won everything in the air, knew when to hold it up and when to lay it off. Was clever and composed, knew how to draw a foul and didn't go down like a fanny like the rest of our strikers did expecting fouls that you just don't get the championship. He worked hard and scored goals, important ones as well. Was 10 times the player Mitrovic will ever be. He is exactly the type of player you will need Experienced and proven in that league and up to the task. We had lots of championship standard players last season but none with his level of experience. You need experienced Championship players who have been and done it in that league, had we had a few more like him we would have had 100+ points.

He was half hearted quite a bit of the time, seem to lack a bit of fire or desire. He had a decent left foot and a decent spell in the promotion side, but was also heavily involved in the 15 point season. In reality he'd be a decent short term signing, but he also comes with previous hence why many wouldn't favour it (also because of age, wages and he may represent a decent outlay and would he be able to play a full season?) He was quite disliked here and one of those many felt hung around longer than he needed to. It would probably be akin to you guys resigning Nile Ranger if you dropped into League two (yes it's not going to happen but you get the idea). Maybe a decent player at that level, but he has previous with yous and it's not favourable.

If he was that good why did he only play in 14 league games for you last season? Mags always over-hype their players, Murphy would be crap at Sunderland if we signed him, can see it a mile off. I'd much rather take a chance on someone like Hugill at Preston.

He did a good job when called upon, but Benitez plays with one up front and Gayle scored 22 goals so obviously gets the nod.

fwiw I don't think Murphy is the one to go for, if I were you I'd be lobbying hard for Tammy Abraham on loan. He'd get you 20 odd goals.

To be fair there's only 28 of them.

You reckon if you were linked with a player from West Ham, West Brom, Leicester the resident fans of those clubs would avoid the thread?
You reckon they would come spouting stuff like this?

"Was more than worth the 3 million we paid for him, scored some important goals and did very well when needed, we just need a championship club to offload him to, best get in quick before the bigger championship clubs come knocking".

A) trying to justify Benitez over paying for him, and B) desperate to point score.

Well, I don't think Benitez overpaid for him, he was bought to be a back up striker who could be relied upon when needed. That's worth £3m in this market.

And the amount of digs you take at Newcastle, you can't be so precious as get upset about a little dig in return. And to be fair, I don't read that as a dig, not really. All he's saying is that Murphy will attract clubs from the championship who would be considered "big" for that level. i.e. Burton aren't likely going to come in for him, but Norwich, Leeds etc. might fancy him.

Different player to when we had him, would expect he has generated better experience etc and his game different, whenever iv seen him for Ipswich and even for Mags when he strangely wasn't playing when he did he was a threat and scored few goals. Id prefer a younger player with bit pace or a target man specifically but would accept as a loan deal not permanent

Gayle scored 22 goals in the league. Scoring once every 93 minutes played.

Not really that strange that Murphy and Mitrovic didn't play more.

id only have him as a squad player

I didn't say he was top boy did I. I'm also not saying sign Daryl Murphy and you are promoted. I am recommending his signing if he is used in a similar way. Comes on late on to hold the ball up, and is good to start against teams where ball retention is key. When he started Benitez usually subbed him after 60 minutes but that was 60 minutes he worked hard in.

Well given we've just won the division you're about to attempt to get out of, I would imagine quite a few of the players would do a job for you.

Unless of course you think your current squad will win the league next season?
I have to take into account our past few meetings , which has resulted in you lot being humiliated
We,ll take Richie in a part ex for Rodwell

Completely understand your point there but was times Gayle was injured and Murphy wasn't played or they could have went with a two up front etc but only going by hearing what mags said etc and when hearing radio saying he's barely played etc
