Reading this thread just goes to show, if people try they can put a spin on almost anything:lol:

It is clear as day Defoe has done a excellent job for us,and if he was staying next season almost everybody would be saying soo.

However because he is leaving all of a sudden the negativity comes out, the pens he has scored and actually he his record this season is not that good.

This board never surprises me

Sorry for being Mystic Meg, obviously Gus moved on but it's exactly what has happened, sadly.
When he lost his striking boots we had no one to fill them, you cannot become totally reliant on one player, especially with the midfield we have and lack of quality and goals in it.

He's lasted a season and a half longer than I thought he would with the utter dogshit that he's had around him, lumping long balls to him all game. For him to have eased off the gas a little over the last few months is completely understandable in my opinion.

There's some fannies on here. Talking about Defoes legacy as if he's been here 10 years or something. He was here for 2 and a half seasons. We stayed up in 2 of them and went down in the 3rd one. We stayed up 7 years before he arrived. Seriously some people seem to support Defoe not Sunderland. He was a good professional who was paid a massive salary and did a good job and as soon as it suits him chooses to leave. That's an employee not a legend or someone who loves the club as some of the fannies on here seem to think.

You mean Fletcher did more in games, well other than where it counts?
You pay a striker to score goals. All started so well when fletch first signed a thought he was going to be class. Turns out he only turned up in 2 games a season against the mags and was injured the rest. Defoe is the best striker we've had since bent.

The argument was that Defoe does all the midfields running for them.

He's not always deep though, you've made it up based on a few games recently.
I'm going off possibly since Jan. Hence people saying he's been s***e. If your a striker not receiving service having to drop deep to help out with no support upfront how are you expected to score goals? This is my opinion mind everyone's entitled to one.

He HAS had service though!
Look at the amount he's missed over the last 2 months.

Exactly, you're basing it on opinion.

One thing I have noticed is that since January his first thought has been to get a shot away with no interest whatsoever in looking to pass to a team mate .His overall record as a premier league striker would I suspect prove he is the best striker we've had, which is different from being our best premier league striker, which he probably is though,if you know what I mean.

Of course mate you can't be reliant on just one player, it's more the sudden turn against him from other fickle fans that gets me

Now that's a balanced sensible post imo.
