Oh it's point scoring if it's complaining about Brexit

But if I complain about the vote to leave I'm branded a snowflake?

Is that how it works?

The turkeys voted for Christmas, and Christmas is here

It's f***ing horrible mate

I didn't want this to happen

I tried to warn everybody ahead of the referendum
Walkers have said fuck all about brexit, they've said to increase efficiency they've shut the peterlee factory down in the article. I'd imagine a lot of the production will be done in the massive place at Leicester

How has brexit caused this?

Sound like they're streamlining production within the UK not moving it outside?

The business case seems typical of what many companies do when they have various facilities spread across the U.K.

Absolutely this, although it's a bit shit when the company itself is so successful it's trying to squeeze every last penny in profit out of them, Altho didn't pepsico transfer ownership offshore years ago to avoid taxes here too.
***** trick like when they can discard people so easily

They raised prices by 10% due to increased prices of imported ingredients due to brexit

I've not seen any price rises mind, and tesco were knocking out boxes of 40 packs for 4 quid last week, still seems cheap to me

I don't know if there's any truth in the 10% increase in imported ingredients suggestion but supermarket prices aren't a clear indicator; it's Walkers margin that would be eroded which is why they'd potentially be looking to consolidate production and drive through other cost saving measures.

which they would do Brexit or No brexit..

automation allows them to knock out more goods with less people and faster at the end fo the day

Not good. I hope all affected will quickly find alternative employment.
Without knowing the exact nature of the work how transferable are the skills of the workforce?

They said it was the rising price of the oil, seasonings and packaging - not the potatoes.

no doubt some costs will have risen but I doubt this is the driving force for the closure... more likely general over production

they have been skimming us for years with the bloody 25g bags

No idea. Simply saying what the reasons they gave for their increase in prices were. That and the increase in fluctuating exchange rates since Brexit.

Whatever the cause of production finishing it's a devastating blow. Gutted for the families over East Durham and further afield who'll be affected by this.
