I've met some truly mad Sunderland supporters .....

My post never derailed a thread.....i acknowleged a very clever post.....your obsession with me maybe though.
I enjoy reading these im a thug threads....but i rarely if ever post on them.....and never engage any of the wannabees. But you do ask me to reply ......when im not interested.

What a joker.

You follow me around like a pig with a ring through it's nose man ...... no self respect.

You had an earlier attempt at derailing the thread and were laughed off the board, now you're back with Jardine & Haway to hold your hand.

As better people than you have explained the thread is about characters ....... something you entirely lack.

That's fair enough mate.

In our defence I'd say it's a little unfair to tar us with the same brush as supporters who regularly went to matches armed.

The only weapons I've seen used are a broom and a dustbin lid ;)

I once used a piece of string as a defense mechanism at Leicester. Top of the stairs on their end, about 6 of us, hoards trying to get up to us. I stood with this piece of string & shouted " we might take a kicking but I'll noose the first fucker" .... possibly alcohol driven bravado or just bullshit ???? they never tried to get at us mind ;)

Not interested....stop quoting me and sending alerts..,....converse with the others your attention is neither warrented or wanted.

Can't help you about who was involved Riv, it was probably this match

Incidentally this is the worst in stadium away violence involving SAFC fans that Ive ever witnessed

Riv

Sorry mate. had a few trying to relieve boredom from todays match. Ill try again!

it was vauxies n gateshead lads 70 of us surrounded by boros lads ..ben cooney pulled us together that day .boro kept at us all game our older lads stood firm with us in tow ...boro never got over that day thats why years later they hated us more than leeds and always wanted revenge ...on final whistle we pilled out into side street hell on all way back to buses up by holgate end . for some reason that day we put buses on instead of going by train ... rip mick aggers . big jimmy . henry ...if it were not for these plus vauxies lads god naaaas what would have happend as boros mob were also in the left corner simlar to us oldies at front youngans in tow two mobs one of 250 plus n ours around 70 ...hairy day it was but it was life those days goi g into gome ends ..

Perhaps you can fill me in ......

...... with a few details ;)

We went to Ayresome Park for what I believe was a league game on a Saturday in the late 1970's or early 80's.

We had the RH corner opposite the Holgate End and part of the paddocks. It was a day when Boro started to fight back after Sunderland had laughed at them for years.

Anyway, this is my question to you and anyone else who may have been there. If you looked from the Holgate End towards the 'away end' there was a large section of home terracing to the left.

Around 100 supporters appeared before kick off, in the top corner, and were making a fair bit of noise ..... we assumed they were Boro.

But the rest of the terracing turned and charged them which lead to a fair bit of actual fighting. This continued for the whole of the game with Boro charging them but being beaten off.

The polis had enough to deal with, all round the ground, so ignored it. We don't know what happened, at the end of the game, because trouble started in our paddocks which spilled out onto the street.

I always wondered who those lads were and what happened after the game ...... they were outnumbered 10 to 1 but seemed totally unconcerned.
The SAFC lads in that top corner never got shifted although they were attacked from all sides!! I have no idea where they were from but were as hard as nails. I was in the normal away end that day strangely enough with a mag who had come along to see how Sunderland would get on!! He was utterly amazed at what he saw and Always had a lot of respect for us after that.

I can't help you with this one although I ve been in quite a few scrapes at Boro. The seats behind the goal, Clive Rd end used to be mixed fans, feckin hell on.
The night
It was to the left of that centre block as you looked at the end.

I remember sitting in that block for a night game shortly after the Cleveland abuse scandal ..... very tense night.

I think it was a cup game and we lost

Dear me ..... when you, Jardine & Haway form a circle to lick each others arses I know I'm getting to you

But of course you're not obsessed at all.

Why not post a thread of your own instead of trying to derail a thread that dozens of decent people are enjoying?
That night game we were at the back of those seats and it was a bit hairy. A few Boro lads had thrown punches and we were outnumbered and I was thinking it could be a long night. About ten minutes after kick off a group of about 20 to 30 of our lads turned up at the back, most wearing kilts and docs. They were like cavemen and manna from heaven to me, the boro boys saw them and didn't fancy it one bit.
I wonder who these cavemen were ?

That's probably what this thread is all about mate.

We travelled from far and wide but lots of us never knew each other ...... but we'd help each other out.

I'm proud to say I chipped in with Sunderland lads who were set on.

None of these sad obsessed internet reciprocal wankers will ever affect that.

Anyone remember the white Sherpa van with the unipart stripes that used to pick up at Peterlee town centre and the Trust Blackhall.Choka block think the record was 22 and I'm talking fri night trips to London/ south coast no seatbelts never mind seatbelts they wern't needed cause their were no seats.Classic memories.

Always wondered who the hell that was

That reminded me of an article I'm sure was on the old Paul Dodds website after the first match at the SOL against the mags , some Leeds fans came up incognito to observe what the craic was on derby day .

It was well written and basically told it as it was , with not taking anything but an independent view .

It mentioned the mags coming over the bridge with the police escort and how they got attacked by a massive mob , they reckoned nobody would have matched us that day , too many lads all up for it.

I'm buggered if I can find this article though.

It was on Dodds's site, and you have summarised the appropriate post perfectly.

You'd really think, wouldn't you, that an ex-service man would value standing up for yourself, covering the backs of your mates and confronting bullies.

That's certainly been the case when I've been to 'military towns' like Aldershot, Portsmouth, etc, for matches, and the locals are absolutely no different.

As it happens, I'd guess that more serving and ex-servicemen have been involved in serious assaults than football supporters.

I notice Sgt Ain hasn't posted any examples of these shocking attacks, by Sunderland supporters, on innocent bystanders.
Been reading this thread. It's very interesting and put me in two minds about the stuff supporters have got up to. I'm no angel but I've never been involved with footy violence but I've had plenty of "scraps" over the years.
Anyhow there is a book called Nemesis. It's written by an ex soldier who served Northern Ireland during the troubles. Read it that will give you an insight of some of the serious assaults British soldiers have been involved in. You won't put the book down once you start reading.

Cheers.

I have a close relative in NI working for the MOD, it's a constant worry.

I think many people think the threat of sectarian violence or at least serious violence has gone,it hasn't.
Anyhow did you ever come across the Chilton Trojans ( Sunderland supporters) during your excursions ? All skin heads, my grandad ( served for 35 years ) used to get a bottle of whiskey bought for him on Xmas because he used to be on the door at the legion. He didn't like the fuckers though because they wore nazi and SS gear.

I will buy it but wonder what relevance it has to this thread.
