Why would he need to when he was signing for Villa? That deal will have been all but done before the mags game. If he was being awkward he coukdvd refused to play a game two days before he was due to sign for another club, he didn't and you're wrong which is becoming a familiar theme for you. Move on.
Villa had had no bids accepted, he hadn't put in his transfer request, all that the safc management knew was he wanted a new contract.

Villa and his agent did it behind the club's back then they made a bid after he was in his Birmingham hotel room.

I did and it's only now with benefit of hindsight and a massive agenda that people say this. Nobody was at time.
They were actually because I remember saying he was fine and they shouldn't worry

I did after the Newcastle game mind, he was a disgrace that day, remember clearly talking to me dad about it

He created a pretty good chance for himself that day, never really made many chances for himself either in general so I'd say calling him a disgrace that day is a bit harsh.

Do remember him not celebrating a goal (against Bolton potentially?) and just walking back to the halfway line, so the signs were probably there but I don't think he was that bad. He still notched a couple of times in the few weeks before he left.

You seriously think this was something that got settled in 48 hours? Transfers go on and on and on man. There's no way we were oblivious to any of this, not a chance. Was his agent touting him about? Absolutely. Do I think Bent knew how much more he could get from villa than us? Absolutely.
If bent was this unprofessional ready to go on strike player why the fuck would he put his move in jeopardy by playing two days before he was ready to make his big move? Stop talking shite man and get the blinkers off. The real worlds not that scary ya know!

He was awful, you could see he couldn't be arsed, if he wasn't awful I'm not sure why I remember having a conversation with me dad about it.
Previous to that, as you say, there were signs but yes that's with hindsight.

What's that got to do with him moving to Birmingham before we'd had our accepted a bid for him

Moved to Birmingham? He was in a hotel room FFS! He knew what was coming and will have had a fair idea how it was going to pan out. If it didn't he checks out of his hotel room and comes back up here! It's simple really. Not that this was likely mind as we were never going to turn a bid like that down.
HE NEVER EVER EVER EVER REFUSED TO PLAY FOR US AS YOU CLAIMED! Stop digging and move on man.

Of course he would have come back and played for us......

Check mate in this pointless yet still enjoyable argument.

So anyway so far we've established Matt Richie had signed for the mags and taken a step down with a lesser club for money, which I don't have a problem with, you've tried to argue all footballers would, which isn't true or they'd all be in China.

You've tried to say kaboul and Defoe AR mercenaries who would move on for more money which they possibly would, but they wouldn't drop to a lesser club sush as newcastle unless it was stupid money as Matt Richie's is, you've tried to paint Darren bent as the second coming of Christ despite the fact he engineered a move to villa leaving us no option but to sell him, he would never played for us again hence why he travelled to brum.

Anymore gems of knowledge you'd like to educate us with?

in the summer prior to the move he was ready to go to Turkey or somewhere. Broadly, he and his agent wanted to re-negotiate his contract on the back off a good season. Took a pay cut to join Sunderland (supposedly) and thought he deserved a raise to bring him more in line with other English strikers - i would say that is fair enough.

So its not as if the club weren't warned. I'm sure Quinn and Bruce convinced him to stay and said they would re-evaluate the situation if he maintained his form. Then look what happened six months later.....

I daresay the hierachy thought we could do without him given the emergence of Gyan (Bent was in and out of the side in our good spell that season iirc) therefore accepted the bid and didn't try and keep him. Then look what happened a further six months later.

For me, this was the football club's doing more than anything. I know you hear the 'greedy bastard' remarks - but how many new contracts have the likes of Kane & Vardy been given over the past 18 months? That is to reflect their form, and the fact that other clubs are willing to offer them lucrative contracts.

Why wouldn't he given he played two days before he moved? As I said we were never turning that bid down.
Yes Ritchie moved for more money which a lesser club like the mags were always going to be able to offer. This was common sense or at least it was to me, it seems it wasn't quite so straightforward to quite a few others!
I never once claimed Defoe and Kaboul are mercenaries I just said don't get too carried away with all these tears as if a more attractive proposition arose they'd be away. That's not being a mercenary it's just life.
Bent did engineer a move to villa but provided us very good service and made us a massive profit. You then decided to make a load of shite up by saying he refused to play for us!
You've had a very poor thread from start to finish and yet still can't bring yourself to move on!

Yep of course he'd have played for us if we'd decided not to sell him

I thought he got a new contract after his Turkish fantasy?

I vaguely remember people talking about his attitude at the time and like you said people posted on here about it. Disgusting might be the wrong word as @MarcoG said he scored a few more but you could tell something had changed perhaps?

It's a pretty good assumption, unlike you're 100% accurate assessment of how the transfer played out of course ;)
Mine isn't 100% accurate and I've never claimed it to be. Neither of us know how it played out but I do know that two days prior to his move he played for us which is hardly the action of a bloke ready to go on strike. You claimed he refused to play for us which you have no idea of but it suits your agenda so you contribute to push it.
