On pre season tour in some far flung place.

Sel, do you knaa anywhere what will have the cricket on??

Durham's on Sky.

Didn't matter if it was Albufeira, Ireland, America or anywhere, a pub with the chance of getting it on had to be found.

I remember us having the Oval test match on v South Africa when we were in that bar in Seoul.

aye, me and Mick H got to Copenhagen a day ahead of him for the Midtjylland game 3 years back. Day before is spent hunting for a bar with SS2, then negotiate with Irish barman (neither Danes nor Irish get cricket) for the Doms v someone to be on the following night. Then leave a message on reception (pre phone days of course) with pub name and directions.

Things just are not going to be the same ever again mate.......................

Rest In Peace Didge.
We have lost a great lad, one of the best supporters this club has ever had.
He was one of the most popular people I have known, no one had a bad word for him.
A truly lovely bloke who everyone liked and enjoyed being around, listening to his craic on football, cricket or life in general. He loved his cricket and was a very good batsman for many years.
Davey was a kind, gentle man and I will greatly miss his company and for his kindness to me and my daughter, over the past few years especially.
First met Davey over 35 years ago and I can't believe I will go to the match in August and he won't be there.
Till we met again old friend you will live on in our hearts.

Well done mate, amongst lot's of other fitting tributes you've absolutely nailed it.

The best.

I know it's the done thing to say things like that when someone passes, but he really was.

Still can't believe it. He's someone I've known my entire life and he was a first class bloke. It'll not feel right going to a Sunderland game or walking past his seat ever again.

Never knew him, sounds like a hell of a bloke to know. Sorry to see this end up being one of these type of threads. Had my eye on this thread and was hoping for a better ending.

A real character by the sounds of it, full of life.

RIP

Some have claimed to be Sunderland's No. 1 fan, self-publicists who'd jump into the media spotlight at any opportunity, but not Davey. He loved the Club, not himself. Two missed games in decades (M1 blocked, illness), every pre-season match, every friendly says it all. You never knew how he'd get there, but he always did. Quite simply the best and I'm devastated.

Didn't know the lad but from the comments on here he seemed to be a very well known and well loved bloke.

It's obviously hit people hard and reminds me on here of the time when Podge died.

RIP Davey, sincerest condolences to his family and what seems like a (red and white) army of friends - I'll be raising a glass for you tonight.

sounds like a cracking lad. i hope his family can take some solace from the kind words, the esteem he was held and memories shared on here by his many friends. RIP Davey.

I didn't know the lad,but this says it for me.
