Craft Beer Calling

Craft beer seems to be massive now.

Yet always served in small (usually 2/3 pint) volumes...

Nah, I'm glad it's massive. It's nice people are starting to pay attention to the poison they are imbibing. I have a lot of time for people that are aware it's not good for them in any amount so decide they may as well have nice stuff!

My new favourite pub is The Prince just off Church Street. 5 points pale, Beavertown Neck Oil, Gamma Ray, Bloody 'ell, Four Pure and Kernell all on draught, with three other craft guest beers. The only 'mass produced' beer they have is Guinness. Not sure outside of London but provided you do a bit of research there are plenty of pubs that only serve decent beer. The Cock on Mare Street and Mother Kelly's in Bethnal Green also worth a visit if you're East. All served in pints too :D

Beavertown and Five Points are good, can get them all over the place down here. Beavertowns Neck Oil IPA is lusherooney.

My favourite beer closely followed by 5 points pale. You should try the 5 points yard party on Mare Street, first Saturday of each month. Quality afternoon out with lots of their trial beers on the go.

If there are any still kicking about, Cloudwater's dIPAv3 is magnificent. Best British produced beer I've tried.

They're working on a dIPA4 and 5 as well which will presumably be at this Craft Beer festival as Cloudwater are going.

I live in Norwich and in the last year and a half several really good craft beer pubs have sprung up. Many either containing their own brewery or linked to Redwell (a great Norwich brewery). Also there's a pub that's set up its own gin still. It's a shame I'm almost certainly moving imminently but the most likely destination is Macclesfield/Manchester area so presumably not bad for craft beer pubs.

Yeah I'd rather pay a bit more for quality. Can you recommend any good craft beers that are sold in supermarkets? I don't often get the chance to go to the festivals.

Depends on the supermarket and, as you'd expect, they tend to have the major American brands that are now verging on not being 'craft' any more through sheer volume.

Waitrose has Sierra Nevada IPA and SN Torpedo IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Brooklyn Lager, a few Brewdog beers, Camden IPA and Camden Hells (I think) and maybe a few others.

Asda has similar and usually has Anchor Steam, as do most Tescos, I think.

Tesco has Goose Island IPA - the greatest of them all, think it's 4 for £6

Every now and then aldi gets belters but it's luck of the draw really.

If you want some serious selection take a drive to Reyhills in Jesmond - best selection in the north east unless there's somewhere I dont know about. Looks like a normal corner shop from outside , but through the back is amazing

I've been to the place it's in and unless there was a decent band or loads of free drink I cannot see why you would pay £11
I'm a little sad the mr scruff sundays are not part of it this year. Hes been class last two years closing the weekends.
