Tbf, to all those saying "he failed", theres been plenty of threads on here all season about how even if Allardyce takes us down, we have to keep him.

Pretty similar really.

Yeah, it would show they'd both failed and both clubs had failed.

We seem able to accept we've not been very good and need to improve ........ the Mags think it's all just some big mistake and nowt to do with Newcastle.

Tbf the overwhelming majority of mags accept they are shite, and think they got what they deserve. A few moronic tub thumpers in the press keeps the image of idiot Geordies going though, which is good.

That said, all mags are happy they have kept Benitez, and they should be, it is a top class appointment. I certainly wish he had left.

I'm not celebrating this news. I'd rather have had Neil Warnock with no budget than Benitez with a "wor chest".

Still, we have at least a season to establish ourselves properly again in the premier league and hopefully more strongly in the region, it's up to us to make the most of it.

How many points were Newcastle away from safety when Rafa took over, how many points from safety did they end up being away on the last day?

I'm sorry, but you don't 'fluke' finishing first in the PL
A one season wonder or a flash in the pan. Leicester got a lot of breaks that you need to win the league. The odds of all the top clubs having mini crisis and not losing any key players due to injury was key to their success.

Just seen this on a Mags FB page  -

Beat Spurs 5 - 1 on the last day of the season, a capacity crowd watch it, the game has a carnival atmosphere, then we get world class Rafa Benitez to remain as our manager.

Carlsberg don't do relegations, but if they did.....
Wrong thread. This should be on the Let's All Laugh At Newcastle (again) thread, imho.

Amazed they haven't added "What a time to be alive".

They're crackers. Utterly bonkers. Purblind.

I agree with the bit that says "Carlsberg don't do relegations, but if they did...." Too f***ing true!
