I really dont know how they would do under Rafa in the championshit so that's why I'll enjoy this period following the relegation.

Also not sure who's briefing the press about this positive talk shit because the cynic in me suggests it's just a way to make Newcastle look positive and stop a riot on Sunday

Sam's start was 9 from 9 but we also had a league cup defeat and we lost the next 2 games.
Pretty similar to Benitez I would think and not significantly better.

Nobody really knows if he would have made a difference if the appointment had been made at the same time as Sam's
What I do know is I'm glad it wasn't and I'm glad he didn't have the advantage of the transfer window.
In hindsight I'm sure Newcastle wished they'd sacked Mclaren earlier, they didn't and the only thing that matters is that he failed in the circumstances.

The assumption that had they pulled clear it would have sent us down in their place isn't necessarily true either imo.
Sam's approach and the attitude to games such as West Brom, Crystal palace, Stoke and even Arsenal might have been different in different circumstances and with different results. We''l never know for sure.
Personally I'd have preferred us both to stay up which strangely hasn't meant I haven't enjoyed this humiliation immensely.

Posted this in another thread, but think it also needs saying in this one :

In the same 9 game period Benitez has been in, we have taken 13 points, scoring 11 goals conceding 6 from 1 game less.

Within those games, you could say the following about the teams -

we both played Norwich and Leicester.

Palace are similar to Everton,
Arsenal similar to Man City,
Chelsea similar to Liverpool,
West Brom similar to Swansea

This leaves Stoke who aren't as good as Southampton, but a damn sight better than Villa.

Newcastle were 1 point behind us with a game in hand when he took over, with only 6 goals between us at that point. They now sit 4 points behind us and 11 goals between us. They had all 3 teams around them to play and only managed 2 points and a -1 goal difference from those 3 games. We got 4 points and +3 goal difference in the 2 games we had against our relegation rivals.

Yet they are all still saying that Allardyce is a worse manager than Benitez.

Key to your survival was the performance of three players Allardyce brought in during the transfer window to play to his design. A 'luxury' Benitez wasn't afforded.

True, but, it's not like he didn't have time to pull you out of the mire.

He's obviously been a cracking manager in the past and he got your lot going again, but this hero worship of him seems odd. Performances across the board weren't wildly better than previously - City at home and one half v Liverpool the exceptions - and he picked up only 2 points from 9 against relegation rivals.

Benitez came in claiming the team had all the quality but just needed him to give them confidence.

Now, since he's fucked up, the players are all useless and he should've been brought in before the start of the season

Allardyce has had to work with players who are genuinely struggling but managed to keep us up.

And a lot of people are forgetting something that could've totally crippled us ...... we lost a valuable player and had a huge media frenzy to deal with.

The Johnson situation was a massive distraction and everyone at the club was under the spotlight.

But your squad was already better than ours just under performing.

Di Canio managed to keep us in the Premier League with the likes of Vaughan, McClean, Cuellar, Graham, Kilgallon at his disposal. Again in less games than your so called Messiah. We were 1 point ahead of the relegation zone, but Wigan had a game in hand. He managed to save us in 6 games, as we were safe that season before the last game of the season.

Are you telling me, that with 4 extra games your clown of a manager couldn't do any better?

Retort excellente

Give owa man . He had the luxury of Norwich villa and us to play . Keep up with the excuses tho .

All he had to do was draw with the two teams around him, preventing them from gaining any ground, then beat the team beneath them and match us week on week.

Manage that, and they would be safe. When he took over Newcastle had their destiny in their own hands, very quickly the balance of power they had was lost and they had to start relying on favours from other teams.

However, the media and the Mags, will have you believe that he took over a lost cause and they pluckily only just missed out on staying up. They seem to have a habit of rewriting history to suit their delusions.

Honestly can't seeing him taking to it at all. Think it'll be a massive culture shock, hopefully.

The Saturday Tuesday games must make a massive difference to the manager's routine and how they prepare for games. Mind, he is used to managing clubs with Champions' League commitments which I guess has similar schedules.

Was thinking more of the teams he'll have to play and the style of play he'll be facing. Every team in that league will literally be doing their bollocks to beat them. Think they'd have been better with someone more savvy for that league like Pearson.

Three players? How do you work that out? Vito has cut vital mistakes out, key in staying up. We leaked goals for fun from the fullback positions. Both our fullbacks worked on their positioning and cut out conceding so many goals from their positions, PVA has also scored 5 this season too, Key to surviving. Our back two were panicking under pressure and making mistakes, but Kone and Kaboul have become absolute rocks, key to our survival, Kirchoff has been a revelation, M'Vila pulled out some superb performances in the last couple of games and was head and shoulders above everybody first part of the season, key to our survival. Khazeri has come in and just got better and better getting vital goals in the process. Borini got over his early season slump and brought goals and an assist in the final run in, key to survival. We all know how key Defoe was.

Three people weren't key to our survival. We can thank our team. That's the difference between our team and yours, ours stood up to be counted. They had motivation they didn't have before Sam came. Benitez had the time to install some passion and get a good enough response. Rafa inherited a squad you lot said was better than ours before the window, you then spent 80 million. He had the talent to keep you up no question about it. He just needed to get their heads out of their arse. He failed. Not surprising given he's devoid of any personality. He couldn't inspire a customer to go for something of the specials board let alone a response from your lot.

PDC did what Benitez couldn't man and he was bloody awful. You couldn't beat any of the teams around you and have ended up in a worse position than when you appointed him

He is a tactics tinkerer, surely someone more proven in England (at the level you'll be playing at) would be a better fit. Pearson for example although he did take a while to get Leicester promoted

That was the mistake the board made, they let the fans pick the tune to be played along with the guy to play it, fortunately for us they got a classical pianist in to play a set of bongos.

If they had went for Pearson then, the "faithful" would have went apeshit, but I think he would have cracked enough skulls to get them safety in the Premier League like Di Canio managed with us.

No doubt the three players made an impact, he also got a tune out of players that were previously under performing. Adding up to a solid 'team'.

Similar to us over Dick, at least he kept us up.

Great post mate ......... Allardyce did what the Mags claim Rafa is great at, getting the best out of players.

Half of our team looked like basket cases under Advocaat but Allardyce kept his cool and made the likes of PVA look class.
