Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

Exactly mate, people totally disregard the fact that they were in love and later married. The mad thing is, the legal consenting age for sex for girls 40-50 years ago was I think 13 years of age, and people now are being arrested respectively for having sex with minors. You can't try people on the grounds of what the law is now and what's appropriate, no matter what your morals are. I'm personally against it, but that was a different time in history.

No, the age of consent was raised to 16 in 1885. Nobody, under the age of 131, is being arrested who wasn't aware of the law.

Anybody got a link to the full letter? I get frustrated trying to navigate that awful website. I've only seen the picture of the front page but it looks like shameless attention seeking to me.

:lol: an interesting way of avoiding criticising the club I guess.

We don't have the facts about whether they knew about Johnson's guilt. But considering that it was stated in court that they did, and that they have deliberately avoided that part on their (otherwise thorough) statement, is pretty damning.

The club has come out of this awfully, and looks like an embarrassment who would happily sell its morals (and it's fans) down the river to win a few football matches. And that's pretty disgusting really.

I'm not avoiding criticising the club, I just don't know all the facts. I'd imagine the club will say nothing else until an appeal is over as it may create a legal issue.

I pray some poor sod never has to suffer seeing you on jury duty.

It's a disgrace I don't buy it unless we have had a fantastic win, shows how often I buy it tbh ;) but I will never buy it again and the bloke who has held his son up to the front of a newspaper like that wants shooting with shit.
Agreed. Why do numptys like that feel the need to go public with that shite. For every one person that may agree with him I'd bet there would be at least a hundred ready to give him shit.

Really?

So once again......

The club stated that they passed on the documents they received immediately. There's obviously a degree of faith required here. You either believe the club or you don't. Simple as that.

Sorry, I meant everyone who wasn't wearing red and white blinkers.

Should have been clearer. But like the club statement.

 it was at least heavily implied if not stated (and it was, considering everyone has been left with that impression). It was also implied that the club had copies of all the messages pertaining to the case.

If the implication was incorrect, I'm confident the club (who in its current form isn't backwards in coming forwards) would have strongly denied it, not glossed over it.

Some things are more important than football mate.

Not Adam Johnson.

I'd be happy for the club to answer the questions, but only after arsenal explain why they didn't sack Tony Adams. Same goes for the clubs who employed Lee Hughes & both NUFC & the BBC why they let joey Barton work for them.

Sick of people having a go at Margaret Byrne.

Adam Johnson was a valuable employee to this football club. Not playing him would surely have relegated us and cost the club £100m, making the current annual at the club look minuscule in comparison to what would happen if relegation occured. It was an unethical decision to play Johnson but businesses often have to make unethical decisions to thrive! Margaret Byrne did what she did to save dozens of jobs.
Firstly, he played no role in us staying up last season following his arrest, his impact was minimal. To use the jobs argument as justification for playing a child sex offender is plain stupidity.

You are. You don't know the facts, true. But considering that it's been implied plenty that we had seen the WhatsApp messages and knew he had committed the offence, for us NOT to specifically deny that seems very, very strange. But I'm sure they were banking of GIT MASSIVE SUPERFANS like you looking past that.

The club have royally, hugely fucked up and the least they could do is hold their hands up, be honest and take all the shit that comes with it. They won't, because that'll affect business and money is more important than everything. Except football.

True.

In the last three years we've had several high-profile PR disasters, where the finger can only be pointed to board room level, namely Byrne

The whole badly handled Di Canio saga.
Playing Ji who was ineligible.
The whole Alvarez debacle.
The CEO harbouring a sex offender

Yet still the club can do no wrong in the eyes of some.

Wow

"Several family members visited him on Thursday, the day after he had been found guilty of serious sexual activity with a 15-year-old schoolgirl."

I've not paid much attention so have no real idea ........ is this true, serious sexual activity?
serious enough for about 5 years is the first call

Ah yes, the whatsapp messages sourced from Johnson
