Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

And? What has that got to do with Sunderland's decision to name him in the matchday squads after his arrest? They can't force a club to select a player for the first team.
What are you struggling to work out?
We went to the PFA to seek advice
The advice we received must have related to lifting his suspension
Why would we lift his suspension and not play him? It's his job

Some people need to get a grip. If you were to commit a crime and knew you were guilty, would you tell your Employer this, knowing they would sack you? I know I wouldn't, I would try to earn as much as possible before going down, and would anyone one here really do anything differently? Why the fuck would you?

No different if you are earning £15K A year or £65k a week, you would string it out for as long as you would, do on that basis I am calling AJ a lying kernt, And the first time SAFC knew he had necked on with a schoolie was the first day of the trial, M'Lord

Kudos for one of the worst contributions to the thread.

1) Is it really histrionic that people are outraged a player for us has groomed and engaged in sexual activity with a minor?
2) ??? What are you on about? Of course there will be many worse crimes committed. What relevance does that have to anything discussed here.
3) a) He hasn't been sentenced yet b) He won't get a sentence 'longer than some murders'. No chance.

2/10, must try better.

1) What he did was very wrong, but the reactions from some people are histrionic
2) That the papers care more about a celebrity saying n****r (quite innocently) than the rape and murder of an entire village
3) Yes he will. Big chance

"But... but... the PFA were present so it means the club had nee choice but to play him and treat him exactly like they would have if he wasn't accused of grooming a fan at the training ground while abusing his position as an employee of the club, man!"

So they why did his QC say the club saw the admissions and why didn't the club deny it...

What Allardyce said had nothing to do with any of this. There has never been any suggestion he saw the whatsapp messages or discussed the details of the case with AJ and I wouldn't expect him to have.

This whole issue is about Byrne and senior management. Only they can respond.

I used the word "content", doesn't mean to say I am overall happy with the way the club have handled the situation. I've never had much time for Byrne to start with, but Allardyce I thought spoke well in his press conference today. Senior management at the club is poor, I accept that

Sunderland were well within their rights to suspend him on full pay due to the seriousness of the crimes. The PFA could not have done anything about that.

As you and I are probably aware it is against the barristers code of ethics to continue to defend a client in a not guilty plea when there is (as said on here) there is clear evidence to substantiate guilt. If that evidence is there the barrister must refuse to defend the client.

Now that said, the incriminating evidence was handed early 2015, yet how many dates since then has Johnson been at court and denied all charges must be 3 or 4. That means a QC, his junior have broken the ethics of there profession on a number of occaisions. That is not going to happen

Excellent post.

It would be seen as the club finding him guilty. We aren't a court room

No it wouldn't, it's standard procedure in workplaces up and down the country to suspend employees on full pay on a charge such as this where the defendant has used their job in order to carry out these crimes.

It's irrelevant to the court when this happens.

Da foooook? How did you manage to bring the N word into this reply?

Nope, he'll get 3 or 4 years, out in 2. The starting point for murder (remember it's life, so your sentence isn't halfed), is 15 years. Show me a murder where an adult aged over 21 got less than 5 years and I'll show you a complete f***ing legal anomaly.

You can only serve that suspension for a short time. You then have to act on it

Can I ask a potentially stupid question?
Lets say the club did have copies of the messages and all that, could we be punished in football terms for something like this? As in a points deduction or fine?
