Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

The potential sentences being reported seem very harsh.

He already has signed it
He's being made an example of mate. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson and a warning to all professional footballers that in spite of all the money and privilege they are not above the law, as somany of them seem to believe themselves to be.

Thick. As. Mince.

Doesn't surprise me. As I said in a previous (deleted) thread, he was going round the dressing room basically admitting what he'd done (not sure if admitting to "just" kissing or other things) and making a joke of it, saying he'd get away with it etc. Don't know if it was just a defence mechanism, if he's thick as fuck or has something wrong with his brain.

The most galling issue is the abuse being levelled at our fans or indeed anyone who presumed his innocence the fans for the presumption of innocence and the basic display of human sentiment.
Most people seem to forget human nature, what we did with him wasn't anything special, its something that court cases, the justice system and arseholes seems to have pushed for years in that having the issue raised by police or being charged means guilt, i'm a firm believer in equal rights, were it AJ or my next door neighbour, in the absence of evidence or knowledge i would always presume innocence, having a pre-conceived assumption of guilt is far more dangerous than giving the benefit of the doubt.
That makes being called a 'nonce sympathiser' quite hard to take, when all you re guilty of is wanting to see the good in people and giving the benefit of the doubt.

Me mam said tonight maybe it will be a lesson to others, then we both went nah it won't.

It's fair to say that's blatantly obvious mind.

Defending the principle that someone is innocent until proven guilty is something people should be PROUD of.
At that time, Johnson was an innocent man in the eyes of the law, and there is nothing wrong with people offering their support at that time. There are actually innocent people accused of some bad things sometimes.

Knowing what people now know, nobody would offer that same support. He's a guilty man, and even had be been found not guilty, the evidence we all heard was damning enough for people to want nothing more to do with him.

You can't retrospectively say 'you were all wrong to offer support'. They were RIGHT to support a principle, and it's a bloody proud and valued principle at that.

I think the Club have a responsibility to the community and to the supporters. On that basis, I expect that the very well paid people who are employed to run the Club, will run the Club in a manner commensurate with those responsibilities. I would love to think that this has been the case here - but I am more than a bit alarmed that some (in my eyes, pretty serious) issues that were raised about the Club in the trial have been skirted over in that statement. The natural reaction is to assume that the Club cannot refute the allegations made. After all, if they could, why wouldn't they?
I don't know why they wouldn't but that's their prerogative. At no point during any of this could we have done anymore, like I said whatever has or hasn't gone on is nowt to do with me and nowt I can influence. I just want us to stay up and look forward to next season under Sam. People just love outrage.

How is it stupid. He said he was pleading not guilty. Not one Sunderland fan knowingly supported a "nonce"

I never said anybody knowingly supported a nonce. My position is (and has been from the start as I've posted on here, I'm not after-eventing) that it was utterly f***ing stupid to sing his name when he was up on charges of child sex offences. You don't have to be a f***ing genius to see how that could come back to bite us.

Called it correctly last year...

On Friday, my friend called again and, this time, he picked up the conversation with the air of a man who has seen everything in football and, as a result, would not be in the least bit surprised if this allegation turned out to be true.

“Mate,” he began, “I just heard from a mate who’s spoken to his missus. Apparently, he’s retreated to a dark place, not talking to anyone. Listen, I don’t think he’s ever gonna play football again.”

I pressed him a little and asked what had been said that made him so sure, pointing out that the family were being publicly supportive. “Yeah, they were,” he said, “but that was on Monday. It’s Friday today. I asked my mate what the latest is and he just said: ‘he’s f*****’.”

If that's true it's absolutely horrendous
