Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

So, who on here sang songs in support of this nonce? Hope you're feeling a bit silly now.

What a ridiculous post.

Why would I feel silly for singing songs to support a player who, at the time, nobody knew was going to plead guilty to an offence and when everything he was saying was that he was going to plead not guilty?

Did you celebrate his goals against the mags and Liverpool or did you stand, tutting quietly, and saying to yourself "I'd better not celebrate this. I'll feel silly if in 6/7 month's time he's sent down."

Celebrating goals is one thing, singing his name completely different and stupid.

His celebration against the mags in the 3-0 is making me cringe just thinking about it. What a complete wanker.

Sorry, I see what you mean, I don't know is the answer.

Thats the grey area for me. I don't know either way to be honest but theres a lot of people, including the club, saying he has lied about them knowing to help his defence. I can't personally see how it would make any difference. Fwiw I don't even know exactly what Johnson said in regards to the club knowing about it and I don't even think its that relevant anyway because the media are still running with stories to say the club were aware and that the club were given transcripts of the whatsapp messages months ago. That coupled with the fact they are refusing to sue him for wages as well as ignoring the main allegations about them knowing what had gone on is leaving them wide open to the criticism they are getting at the minute.

Whether or not they did know, it has been handled very poorly

I don't know why some people are getting so worked up about it. He got arrested, got suspended, categorically denied all charges until the day of the trial, got sacked. 'It makes us look bad...... No it doesn't. What could we have done except support one of our players ? If it makes Margaret Byrne or whoever look bad then that's their conscience and their problem. I honestly couldn't give a shit. He's gone and we've got 10 games to stay up.

I think the Club have a responsibility to the community and to the supporters. On that basis, I expect that the very well paid people who are employed to run the Club, will run the Club in a manner commensurate with those responsibilities. I would love to think that this has been the case here - but I am more than a bit alarmed that some (in my eyes, pretty serious) issues that were raised about the Club in the trial have been skirted over in that statement. The natural reaction is to assume that the Club cannot refute the allegations made. After all, if they could, why wouldn't they?

How many 'likes' are you hoping for with this post, then?

It wasn't so much to defend the accusations, but it was about his character. The prosecution was portraying him as mercenary and still playing for the club (earning a wage) as long as possible before pleading guilty at the last minute (ergo, he had no real concern for the girl, or he'd had pleaded guilty sooner).
The defence team therefore tried to defend against this by saying that his club knew - therefore he wasn't hiding anything from the club to earn a wage. They were implying that he'd told the club enough to be able to sack him (and it was the club who chose not to). It's a way of saying 'he wasn't doing it for the money, because he handed a chance to Sunderland to sack him right away'.

Ok fair enough. That makes more sense

A club spokesman said on Tuesday: "Sunderland AFC has confirmed that following a full investigation, defender Titus Bramble has been fined and given the maximum sanction permitted for bringing the club's name into disrepute.'

I suspect he wouldn't have been suspended "for bringing the club into disrepute". I don't know for sure, but would be amazed if there wasn't an indefinite right of suspension pending the outcome of a criminal court case.
