Any player in the bottom 3 of the Premier League cant be remotely described as best in Europe especially a defender!
Matt Le Tissier was probably the best player in the world for a time that Southampton were seriously struggling. Surely it is more difficult to be a great player in a poor team than a great player surrounded by other great players? At one point last season when Catts was on form, the Press started to point out that he was statistically one of the best players in Europe. Mascherano was outstanding for a West Ham side that just barely stayed up.
