Jermaine Defoe - Poorest signing in recent memory

I stand by it. He's had a good two games against two dreadful teams, but more importantly it looks like Allardyce has finally found a way to fit him into the side.

Stand by the view as for his first year here we couldn't play with hin in our side, we had no idea how to. Three managers couldn't, which made him a poor signing.

And as I've said, from the first day I posted it, the title was poorly phrased and over the top.

But nobody dare argue the points I'm making, as they aren't clever enough to.

Midas likes this.

I was vocal last year when he was getting stick. His record has been decent here from day one. Far better than other attacking players. That's all I want to be honest. His movements in the final third are far better than anyone we have. If others have better decision making we would score more. PVA last night for example, just had to role it across to Defoe who was in a class portion. That's what he gives you, good attacking awareness in the final third. It is not teachable IMO.

Yep. Still this. PVA finally delivered a cross!

What's the new username gonna be? ;)

The fact that 3 managers couldn't work out how to use him may say more about them than it does about Defoe.

Maybes it does. But it still made him a poor signing if we signed a player we seemingly couldn't fit into our side at all (and actually disrupted) .

If we've now found a way we can, then fine, I'll admit I was wrong. But I'll reserve judgment and at the time of the post, the overall sentiment is spot on (even if the title is ott)

He has a one in three record for us, that is very good for a team of our level.

Your point about finally finding a way to play with him is irrelevant as it doesn't affect whether he is a good or bad signing. He was always a good signing - just bein played out of position (but still playing well and scoring) which rests with the managers.

I had a sneaky feeling this thread might make its way to the top of the page again.

 it always will, everytime he scores and that's fair play. But I'll always argue my case about it and not shy away from it. Fuck that.

Take your pick (older readers will recognise the makings of a non-PC joke involving Irishmen and confusion in there)
