villa bigger club than Sunderland

Absolute bollocks, I support Sunderland as that is my local team, all my family support Sunderland. I've supported us for 42 years. Are you seriously insinuating that I've taken the easy option supporting Sunderland?

I said 'relatively easy' option. In the grand scheme, supporting a club like Sunderland, even with all the ups and downs is still a whole lot easier than Accrington Stanley week in week out.
I include myself in that too, supporting City, even in the crap days was still easier than for the poor sods supporting a non-league side through thin, and thinner.
It's all relative, but we've all become a bunch of mard arses, whingeing about our top flight cock ups and our 'dark days' when we got as low as the 3rd tier.

Yes, when they sing about empty seats at other grounds.
Empty seats in all 3 ends that I could see. The top tier of the stand opposite had more empty seats than full ones. Guess you need to be 40+ to remember the days of Shaw, Mortimer, Morley etc. By the late 80s it had gone sour

So let's get this right, we should be supporting a low league team because supporting Sunderland is relatively easy?

I've told you why I support Sunderland, your argument does not add up, in fact it is bordering on stupidity.

Look mate, I love SAFC but let's be realistic. All I've done is post facts and the fact is, villa are a bigger club than Sunderland. It's embarrassing to argue otherwise. Does it bother me? Not at all. SAFC are still a big club, just not as big as villa, who are one of the most successful clubs in England.

Why are they bigger, and how are you measuring it?
Trophies won?
Current attendances, or all time attendances?
Per capita for their given cities and catchment area?
Brand recognition?

And what does it matter anyway? Are you supposed to feel better if you're bigger, and 'put in your place' if you're a smaller club? I'm not having a dig at you personally, just the whole debate about club size. It's madness.

It's a pointless argument really because nobody will ever agree. How do you quantify a big club? Villa haven't been a big club for a long time, neither have we. That's due to a lack of winning anything and therefore relevance in the modern game. Villa are also rans as we are. They've won the European Cup (years ago) and we haven't, but we have much bigger and better support. I don't think it's embarrassing at all to argue that we are bigger than them although we are both nobodies in the grand scheme of things.

I'm 40+ and remember those days.

no-one ever comes out of these types of arguments looking particularly good. Proper my dads bigger than your dad, childish and utterly pointless nonsense

I'm basing it on success, and villa come out top in every category.
It's not just the European cup, okay forest won it twice, but villa complement it with their records in other competitions, forest don't.

Listened to 606 on the way home tonight. 2 Liverpool fans on, Neil from Cheltenham and another whinger with an accent about as Scouse as mine. "Awful performance" "Rodgers should have been sacked in summer" "why didnt we buy (long list of completely unrealistic names)"
Well isnt life shit when you consistently finish outside the top 4! If it gets any worse you might have to support your local team. Liverpool, Spurs and the new breed of Chelsea fan get very bitter if they arent winning.

You have slightly bigger and no better support

Villa have been ever presents in the PL-You haven't
Villa have qualified for Europe on numerous occasions-You haven't
Villa have appeared in numerous semi finals and finals-You haven't

Villa will probably get back to competing at the top half of the table. You never have and are never likely to. To compare yourselves to Villa is only adding to your delusions sonny

I never said you should be supporting anybody. You choose who you choose.
I AM pointing out that supporting a club like Sunderland is easier than supporting a non-league club.
You actually stand a chance of winning a trophy within a lifetime. You actually have better facilities to watch the game from, and better access on TV. You're watching a higher quality of football, and you're encouraged by tens of thousand like-minded supporters. You have decent transport facilities for away games too.

It's a darn sight harder doing that with a non-league or lower league outfit, and a lot more soul destroying, and try travelling the length of the country on the official supporters van (some other poor fans 12 seater bus borrowed from work). It's all relative, but yes, I stand by my assertion that supporting a top tier club is easier.

Ask neutral fans and I'm confident that every one of the other 90 clubs would say that Villa are definitely a bigger club than Sunderland

Yes, that's my point. We sulk because we've lost a couple of games on the trot, and we aren't happy because there's some empty seats in our plush stadiums.
Get your arse down to Rochdale on a wet Wednesday and see a real lot of crap knowing there's no hope for your team ever!
Our 'woes' in the top tiers are sod all.

I've already listed the reasons they are bigger than us - better records in all competitions.

So am I . By the late 80s I was watching sheff utd there In division 2 in a very poorly poulated stadium. Lots of those giving us banter from behind the goal today wouldnt have been born though.

Who cares, I'm more annoyed that we didn't beat you boys today to be honest. Not having a go but I thought it's a game we should have won.
