Dicks future in doubt again

What a shambles that in the final week of the transfer window, we have the gaffer having a standoff with the owner, as to whether or not the owner will provide sufficient investment to enhance his own business.

Advocaat is being hammered for fuck ups made way before he arrived, and this was known before he was pursued for weeks to commit to the club.

I hope this is the last season (either way) we ever see this complete buggers muddle, it makes us look as shit as we have allowed ourselves to become.

Dick a bedwetter now?

There's nothing in that article to me that suggests Dick will leave. Simply he's said he's not happy about the transfer window.
I'm not happy that my bairn cries all sodding day, but I'm not going to walk out the door

Allardyce wasn't interested before & he wouldn't be interested now under this set up.

Allardyce was practically begging for the job after Keane left, we ended up appointing Sbragia and just staying up whilst Big Sam turned around a doomed looking Blackburn.

If I was him I'd tell us to fuck off if we ever contacted him, he probably feels the job he did with West Ham warrants interest from a club with bigger ambition than us.

@CraigHope_DM: Dick Advocaat future as SAFC boss in fresh doubt tonight after taking swipe at Ellis Short & admitting he's not happy
Seen his press conference an you can see the go at Short while praising Congerton with the constraints he has to work under ...but Dick wants three players in... Said weeks ago .that Dick will walk and on the basis of ambition by the board who could blame him...Suprisingly no comments from the CEO

Wow. Just unreal on here.
It's unbelievable, idiotic[/QUOTE]

1 point V 1 decent signing (got no chance of 3 in a week)

Shows his lack of footballing nous then if he thinks that. The results make no odds. Win, lose or draw you have to spend. The result should not be the deciding factor in determining whether you spend money on signings or not. When have you known Ellis Short to pull money out of his pocket no matter how well or bad we have been doing? Ellis is not up to the job and what time will tell is whether or not he will come to realize that.

he doesn't get/take the TV money , so why should he be bothered.

Supporters disappointed we didn't get heavily beaten - that's shameful in any circumstances imho.

but with it being done in the press , 3 defeats in a row & he might open the war chest just 1 more time.

Whilst it's a worrying trend, we've heard this a number of times before.
I can't argue with that mate, however this time it feels like a watershed and maybe what's left of our luck could be about to run out. I hope I'm wrong , and I usually am, time will tell.

A large portion?

I'd say sacking Di Canio, de Fanti, Angeloni plus the other ancillary staff would have cost a few quid like.......and it came only a few months after O'Neil and his entourage were sacked.....that little lot must have cost in excess of £10m.

You get the feeling it probably has to at some point. But at crucial times in the past two seasons we've looked almost certain for relegation and recovered, whereas this times it seems to be coming to a head very early. Who knows - maybe we'll see that crisis point fighting spirit much earlier this season

Lot of good posts by @Nelson! in this thread like. Sad times, seems it's all finally going to come crashing down around us. Respect Dick for making a stand against Short, going to get stick from some corners for it but this is the only avenue left for him to push down. Personally think Short will just dig his heels in further.

If what you're saying is true, it seems a bit strange that he appointed Advocaat though: ideally he'd want a 'yes man', someone younger with less experience who would toe the party line, rather than a vastly experienced old head who was considering retiring and really has nothing to lose from telling it how it is.
He's a billionaire hedge fund specialist. He's been successful in everything he's done apart from us. Possibly he truly believed that no appointee of his would have the audacity to get up on his back legs and tell him a few home truths. Honestly, did he really believe that a man like Advocaat would come out of retirement to roll over quietly if it all went tits up? I don't think it's strange at all that he wanted Advocaat,I truly believe that in his arrogance Short thought he would do as he was told. Undoubtedly short has spent huge amounts of money keeping us going, and he deserves credit for that, but to baulk at investing further now, when in my opinion he has found someone who can spend it wisely makes no sense to me at all.

If the costs are over 3 mill a year I'd be absolutely gobsmacked

I don't know Short from Adam so it's difficult to be sure, but if there's one type of person who is likely to come out and tell it as it is, it's a well-respected and experienced manager who could just tell him/us to fuck off at any given point and retire, and keep his good reputation completely intact.

It's a no lose situation for Advocaat imo, and it might be exactly what we need to find out exactly what's going on at the top of the club.

But that means it's £3m each year and we may have paid it all up front. I really don't know how we do it tbh but I'd imagine we've spent a substantial amount on replacing managers and ancillary staff.

It was 20 mill last season. When did he cut the spending back?

I meant in terms of investing in new players, I'm aware he's still bankrolling us, although he appears to be loading the debt in a different manner. Anyway, I'd say during Bruce's tenure. For me there appeared to be a significant shift in policy at that time. Possibly wages beginning to bite?
