Absolutely this. A good/bad creative cm will make or break our season. Tbh if Johnson is around I think he could be a decent player there.

I'm also interested to see what we do with defoe. It looks like we are sticking with 433 but arguably our best two attacking players (him and Wickham) aren't really suited to the cf role, or the supporting forward roles.

Dembele reportedly worth 10-12m and would definitely do a job for us. Has worked with Advocaat and Lens before as well.

Dembele is a good player but I wouldn't class him as a creative player, not checked his stats out but I don't recall him scoring that many. Good player tho and I wouldn't be upset if he signed.

Would be a cracking signing for us, but Chelsea? That would be a strange move.

Must say I'm still massively surprised we still haven't got one in. Doesn't look like we will now mind.

Sunderland love a good mid window change of heart around spending and ambition mind :lol:

Searched 'dembele' to see how long ago it was that the link came out. Was asked earlier about what changed in the clubs mind, was trying to see when the initial link came out and when it subsequently went quiet. Seems strange we desperately wanted a creative player but seemingly changed tact.

Don't think anybody expected what happened since like, even on the pitch :lol:

The crux of the matter to me is that Advocaat has asked for between 4 and 6 players good enough to improve the first team (depending on what report you read) and got 1.

I know you're not blaming him and I don't want to make it sound like you are, but he can only do so much and unless he has been given free reign over transfer business (which we all know he hasn't) then there's really not much more he can do IMO given we have a Director of Football.

This group of players has proven not to be good enough time and time again. Throwing in 3 or 4 squad players of a similar standard to what is already there is not going to give any manager a cat in hells chance.
