i suppose if we were to have made a bid and they accepted they wouldn't want it to go public either, considering that things may fall apart with negotiations with the player and they would be essentially setting a benchmark price if they let it go public, rather than allowing the chance of subsequent higher bids? (i know, know, insanely hopeful reasoning there)

Dont know, interest and a bid, yes. Accepted and signed, probably no. As I said, this has happened many times this season already. We wont want to come out of the deal looking badly so will ask to downplay or deny. Nothing wrong with it, least we are actively looking at such players with such values.
