I had wondered that myself.Reckon Dicks short term contract may put off potential signings
Mind, I've convinced myself that if we get this lad then it's because we've already got Cocu lined up to manage us next season.

Had Poyet stayed, our main target this summer would be Chris Eagles.Precisely what we need. I think I genuinely would jizz myself if we signed him. Hard to think much will come of it, but at least we appear to be targeting genuine quality which makes a change.
I don't know what the budget is or how much the FFP restricts us but I'm sure he knows we need quality players and he is in that group. Sanctioned £10m for Rodwell so it might still be on the cards we can only hope.I'd love us to sign him, but can you see Ellis sanctioning a 13-14 million pound transfer? Seems unlikely.

PSV had rejected a 10 million bid from Zenit, so it's obviously going to cost us if we are seriously interested.
Players of Wijnaldum's calibre see Sunderland as a stepping stone anyway. They aren't signing for the long run.Reckon Dicks short term contract may put off potential signings
Yeah, I remember when people were telling me that Cabral was our new 'playmaker', and Roberge was 'amazing' on the ball. And some on here would be blindly defending it![]()
We have enough fillers.I know what you mean, no way of knowing if we are serious or not yet, and I have no idea how much brass we have, but I do hope we are after quality this summer, and not squad fillers.
Im sure the gaffer has some good contacts, and some thoughts on who we need.
Would be terrible if we attracted PSV players. Depay on loan to us next season........!?I had wondered that myself.
Mind, I've convinced myself that if we get this lad then it's because we've already got Cocu lined up to manage us next season.![]()
Midfield 3 of Catts, Wijnaldum and Larsson. Coates and Van Dijk at the back, with PVA and Byram fullbacks. Townsend and Johnson on the wings, and a new striker up top swapping with Defoe.Wijnaldum played in the middle 3 in the PSV 4-3-3 formation.
So he would be the playmaker in front of Cattermole and maybe next to Larsson?
Ad a good winger and 3-4 defenders and we will be alright next season![]()
I've never seen the lad play but he has a good reputation and has apparently been courted by some of Europes top clubs. Just don't see him coming to a club constantly battling relegation.Be interesting Janey, Dick must have some kind of sway with lads who know him, he seems to be a popular gaffer.
We could make a big impression in the market this time round, here's hoping!
Why? Not unreasonable to pursue good players.
Maybe he might see us as a stepping stone to testing himself week In week out in a major league for a couple of seasonsI've never seen the lad play but he has a good reputation and has apparently been courted by some of Europes top clubs. Not sure many think like that to be honest. With the big boys invariably comes big money and that's ultimately what it's all about.Maybe he might see us as a stepping stone to testing himself week In week out in a major league for a couple of seasons
So true and I'd probably be one of the ones madly trying to justify it to myselfAnd some on here would be blindly defending it![]()

Our top man informs us Newcastle in initial negotiations with PSV for playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum. Fee would be in region of £9m #NUFC
Damned if they do, damned if they don't it seems. If he's available and wants to come to England, then all we can do is try and let him know he would be very welcome here and will get paid well.So let me get this right, this lad will never sign for us because he's too good for us. If he does sign then he's obviously not as good as he's made out because he'll be signing for little ole Sunderland, relegation fodder. Ffs how are we ever supposed to move forward with people who have mindsets like that. Lets have a bit of ambition for once. Looks like the club might be starting to learn from mistakes and trying to get things right.
