The plane fly past is back on...

@tynevalleyblackcat Not one person who has participated in this has claimed to speak or represent every Sunderland fan. The only person making that claim is you, which is a straw-man argument.

Secondly, you keep on repeating the mantra that the 'majority' of 'decent', 'real' fans are against the idea. Yet not every Sunderland fan will be privy to this banter, not every fan will be willing to participate despite appreciating the tongue in cheek nature of it. Some will love it, some will loathe it but by and large people are apathetic to most things. Otherwise the bulk of the country would be marching the streets when the banks screwed us silly and numerous other instances of the general populace being shafted.

This part of your argument is called the No True Scotsman Fallacy.

I mentioned this to a few fans I go to the game with today and they all agreed its a stupid and terrible idea.

As I said during the week, if you are stupid enough to go ahead with this stunt, that will damage the good name of our fans and probably take us years to recover from, then please at least have the decency to post your names in advance on this thread (and I mean real names not usernames) so we all know who was responsible when it inevitably brings shame on our club. Should not be a problem to any of you as its 'just banter' isn't it? and it's just 'a bit of fun' isn't it? Get your full names on the thread now so we all know who was behind this hilarious 'banter' and 'fun'.

You do not do this in my name or in any of my mates names, so don't be a coward and hide behind message board anonymity. Get out in the open if you are so proud of your stupidity.

PS, I will assume if nobody posts their full name that they actually secretly have reservations and fear I might actually be right on this one.

What would you like me to do with my season ticket money?

Your season ticket doesn't represent our football club though, this banner does.

Huge difference and anyone against it is more than in their right to say so.

I'll be honest, as it stands we've made next to nothing for charity which I find very ironic. The people who wanted the plane chipped in until we had the funds. The people who don't want the plane but want us to give all of our money to charity have donated sweet FA.

All the money raised from here on in goes to charity, I posted this a couple of times, the response, nothing! Talk about moral high ground, laughable.

[email protected] for charity, not the plane.

And now you're criticising people who are against the idea for not donating money to charity.

Quite laughable really.

have to be honest and say I've gone right off the idea, still its surely the prerogative of those who've donated though

It is, but now that it's becoming clear there's a large percentage against the idea, you'd think they would think twice about it.

But they clearly don't seem to care what many of their fellow Sunderland fans think.

We're staring relegation in the face, but Sunderland 'fans' are more bothered about flying a plane over Newcastles ground.

Unreal.
Two points
1) The plane will have zero effect on whether we stay up or not, it had zero effect on todays result, or any of the other shite results we have had this season (and before)
2) You can fuck right off with your 'fans' in quotes pish

You seem obsessed with the idea of flying a plane over Newcastles ground.
Fine.
I'll spend my time thinking about SUNDERLANDS next 6 games and how we're going to get out of this mess.
Unless you are on the coaching staff or a player, that will also have the same effect as flying the plane, fuck all.

Some things are beyond our ability to control, once you realise this you can take enjoyment out of the things you can. Hope this helps.

Youve made your point
You can't be so egotistical to think that everyone has to agree with your point?
Youve put together a good argument, said it 500 times, and we all understand it.
I do. I understand it.
I still don't agree, and saying the same thing 500 more times is just going to get you worked up more.
You can't force your opinion onto people.
It's a message board
Get your message out.
You have. Lots of times.
But for your sanity Id really drop it marra.
Have a look on another thread and lighten up.
And then in 3/4 years when the footballing world is still slagging off sunderlands disgusting support for having the audacity to send a plane over SJP with 5 in a row behind, and we get ostracised from society and ridiculed wherever we go, you can be first in line to say 'I told you so!'
Ah, but will he tell everyone his real name so we know just who was right?

Less people have voted in that poll combined than have donated.

Some very entrenched positions on this thread, very few are sitting on the fence.

As a compromise, couldn't those so who are so wedded to doing the precious fly-past postpone it until when we have completed 6 straight wins against them, (preferably at a point in time where we are not on the brink of yet another relegation)?

At least then it would be a new Wear-Tyne Derby record, as opposed to merely equalling the one that they already hold (and didn't make much noise about when they secured it).

I presume that those who are in favour of this are of this mindset because they believe it will rile the mags? Suggest that at present it won't rile them, it will merely amuse them as it further evidences the tragic obsession with them of a section of our support.

We would look even more stupid and parochial now after the country has seen us humiliated by Palace.

I will actually be in Prague next weekend when this thing is supposed to happen so it wont be high on my list of priorities, we are doing Slavia's home game on the Saturday and Viktoria Zizkov's on the Sunday. I have made my point and will now go away and enjoy my holiday. We are meandering across Europe first via ferries and trains.

You'll never be far away from a bar with Sky coverage then.
Enjoy your trip.

We can't do anything about the performance on the pitch. We pay our money and turn up week in, week out but the actual game depends on the 11 men on the field and how they perform on the day.

After the dross we've had all season, I'm still keen on the plane as it's a moment of light hearted fun after months of coming out the match feeling annoyed and let down.

150 fans and we have an average home support of getting on for 44,000 this season. Wow as many as one third of one per cent of our home crowd has chipped in. I can now understand how you can now assume the high ground. Well done. Perhaps I just have to admit defeat now and let this superior 150 people make me and every other Sunderland fan look like pathetic mag obsessed idiots?

The real funny thing is that you have actually parted with money to look this stupid.

Imagine if all the Saturday results go against us next week when we don't play?
So you're assuming that our whole stadium crowd are aware of this plane idea, and then assume they'd take it seriously enough to think about whether they're for or against the idea.

You're then using that assumed basis to judge whether the idea is worthy enough to go ahead.

That's forgetting how pompous and arrogant it is to tell other members of the public how they spend their money, and how they go about supporting charities.

You've come out well out of this one mind.
