1.They are still above us in the league
2. Its not even a record
3. We still might get relegated

Talk about jumping the gun. Even if the above werent true it would still be a f***ing stupid idea. But crack on, im sure you'll get a mention on the lad bible.

What i dont understand is, who needs a plane when that absolute mag heartbreaker of a goal will be replayed over and over and over and over and over....

@GAS Man likes planes.

Here's by tuppence worth.

It was their idea to fly a plane over Sid James to coincide with their "boycoutt" of the stadium. This, in itself, will generate some media interest. Indeed, it already has. Reading some other fans forums, there seems to be an acknowledgement that the threat of a boycott is all wind and piss, and that they'll still all turn up and attend the match.

Therefore, there will already be an element of the media having a small chuckle at their lack of action. The media will know that the protest is supposed to involve their own flypast.

If they don't do the flypast and we do, the particular circumstances are likely to be a source of amusement.

Long term, no one will remember this, or give a shite. The only people who will remember this is us and them.

As has been said, they've had years of piss taking. This is all it is. I suspect we'll get credit too if the media is also alerted to the charity aspect of what is being done.

Childish? Yes. Damaging to our reputation? I personally don't think so.

Edit: if this was just done by us unprompted, or at any other game than their protest, I'd be more inclined to think that it was a poor idea that could damage our reputation. Doing it during their boycott match is just funny, and I think it will be seen by outsiders as such.

It's a twist on the photo bomb and class on that level alone. Practically every football fan (including fans in Oz and NZ) I've ever spoken with about Newcastle view them as bedwetting, dirty sheet waiving, illiterate pie eaters. That we would photo bomb THEIR protest with this is being viewed by those I've spoken with thus far as "They deserve it" and "That'll make their shite protest newsworthy".

If you go to most away games (and avoid the pubs that most Sunderland fans go to) as we do, because we enjoy engaging with the other teams fans, you will realise how well respected Sunderland fans are up and down the country. Our fans are our biggest asset and most other clubs realise that and respect us.

I will agree with you on 'embarrassing' Its just the context that we differ on;)
Yeah and we are respected for our loyalty and humour which is what this is all about if I remeber correctly the week after the 5-1 they all had banners live on a Sky game

this is a brillaint idea, stop being so down on things for fuck sake

Please make one black with " just divvint understand" on :lol:

It's not peterlee its Shotton ! And if the locals find out where it's going and why, then I wouldn't be surprised if the message on the banner mysteriously changed, or the prop off the plane went missing.

Now now we're massive lads fans here:rolleyes:

And we were 100% right.

Now we have fans trying to outdo them in being pathetic. Seems I am a lone voice and this ridiculous idea will actually take off. This will come back to haunt us and will take years to shake off. Just give the cash to charity and let it be.

You're certainly not a lone voice.
We're in a serious relegation battle, but let's fly a plane over Newcastles ground.
It's absolutely pathetic.

Here's my tuppence worth.

Even though this is an amusing idea I don't think it should go ahead.

Firstly, we may still be relegated.

Secondly, they've suffered enough (just because of all the sh*t they've pulled over the years doesn't mean we need to sink to that level)

I go to most of the away games and what crops up all the time is 'your fans are better than Newcastles'. Doing stuff like this damages that reputation that is very hard earned over years and years and I care about that because I go away and I talk to home fans at other clubs on a regular basis. We do have a standing in the game and its clearly more down to our fans than our team and our fans are respected up and down the country for our sportsmanship and friendliness. Stuff like this is neither sporting or friendly.
So basically your wetting yourself in case someone at an away game doesn't welcome you into a boozer as a benign jolly Sunderland fan at some stage . Why the fuck are you so bothered? We all identify as Sunderland fans but your construct of the identity seems over invested . We're football fans , we do daft shit , were not members of the order of the garter.

I actually agree that I care about what other fans think of us and I believe that many respect us and laugh at the Mags.
But I don't think this will change that perception.

I remember walking into a random pub before a Chelsea away game with me mate. When we walked in it was one of those situations where the whole bar went quiet and looked at us, it was packed with some very unfriendly looking Chelsea fans. We both looked at each other and went to the loo. We decided we couldn't just walk out so we went to the bar. As I was waiting to order one of them asked us to sing a song. We broke into a rendition of Shearer is a wanker, they all started pissing themselves laughing and bought our drinks. That's what they thought of the Mags.

So I honestly think that fans of other clubs will enjoy the fly over and have a bloody good laugh at it. Either that or they couldn't give a shit.

Their protest boycoutt will have various dodgy banners and slogans, spartan decor rites, not where we are aboot etc. but none will mention what has actually prompted their little display of indignation. So this is a little reminder.

It appears that people with a problem with this prank are lads who arnt from Sunderland,is it they don't want to suffer any backlash from any skunks within their lives /family?
As of us lads from the town really only deal with the odd Geordie at work and are immune from any pisstaking as all freinds /neighbours and family are safc .

This is how I see it as well. Not so much about the 5 in a row, but more about how the "greatest supporters in the world" seem incapable of organising a boycott and the "flyover" they keep talking about ends up been a plane sent by the Sunderland supporters.
