How old ibramavich?

It's irrelevant really. Those others players are on a different level altogether than Defoe. The comparisons to Di Natalie and Del Piero and stuff are just laughable really.

Defoe has been a decent PL striker in his time, hopefully he can chip in with maybe 7 goals or so until the end of the season. People are kidding themselves if they're expecting him to come here and smash them in.

Can't really blame people for getting carried away though, he's better than what we've got at the minute.

Aye, I'm pretty devastated when you think of all of the goals he scored to us after the age of 32. I remember thinking at the time 'imagine if this is regurgitated to me 12-13 years later, I'll be gutted'
I think that I'll treat that with the contempt that it deserves....

Yes we bought him for goals, but beyond that he's also a very good footballer.

Good runs. good touch. descent from distance. can pass the ball (which most of our gonks struggle with).

Alot of people don't realise his record would be even better but he was on the bench quite a bit at Spurs. He also has the most goals of anyone in the Premier League from the bench so even when he is 35 and might not start all the time he is an ideal player to have coming on for 30 Min or so
 might have been a reason he was on the Bench. Sounds like Spurs could have won the league if only defoe was playing

Pop Robson kept us up in 1983-84 with three goals in 12 games at the age of 38. Scored 120 goals after the age of 30.

he is loads better than what we have for a few years he will be fine. He's not up there with the worlds best but he's better then so many other 32yr old forwards in most leagues in Europe

No need to defend the lad. He is going to be fresh and ready to go against Burnley!

This really. But we will have to see how it works out given how weak we are when not protecting the defence, I am not so sure Poyet will have 2 up front for long if it goes badly. I am not so sure he is better than Fletcher but other 2 yes, but we need to create more and be on the front foot more especially against teams around us, without a change we are pissing against the wind however plays up front.

I find it strange we have gone on about reducing costs etc. then throw lots of money at Wickham and an aging Defoe.

Heard a few on here saying at 32 Defoe is past it, we shouldnt be signing him etc. Gonna reel a few strikers off here who were/are still scoring at the top level even at 34/35 onwards.

Raul joined Schalke when 33 and scored 40 goals in 98 games for them.

Van Nistelrooy joined Hamburgers SV when 33 and score 17 goals in 44 games.

Del Piero from age 33 to 36 scored 68 goals in 121 games for Juventus.

Totti scored 42 goals in 71 games for Roma aged 33 to 34.

I'm not saying Defoe is as good as these players but do think he has similar ability as a striker and honestly think he will be a legend for the next 2 to 3 years. His age isnt a concern at all to me and I'm buzzin he chose us over other premier league clubs to end his career.
Will the chances be created? Defoe's goal scoring isn't an issue.

Or to put it another way, all of those world class players scored significantly less than their career average by the time they hit their 30s.

In Defoe's last half of Premier League football, he scored one goal.

He scored 11 the season prior to that - same as one Stephen Kenneth Fletcher.

He did, but half of those 'appearances' were as a substitute.
Fletcher scored 11 in 30 for us, and he started practically all of the 30.
Is Stephen Fletcher prolific, in your view?

Steven Fletcher has never scored more than 12 in the PL.

Some chances only happen because forwards are in the right place, Defoe should be more often than not and quite a few balls in that should have been anticipated but weren't and therefore looked aimless will be the perfect ball if the forward times their run. Still need to look at creating more but just having movement and faith in the person you're passing to makes it much easier for midfielders/ wingers.
