Heard a few on here saying at 32 Defoe is past it, we shouldnt be signing him etc. Gonna reel a few strikers off here who were/are still scoring at the top level even at 34/35 onwards.

Raul joined Schalke when 33 and scored 40 goals in 98 games for them.

Van Nistelrooy joined Hamburgers SV when 33 and score 17 goals in 44 games.

Del Piero from age 33 to 36 scored 68 goals in 121 games for Juventus.

Totti scored 42 goals in 71 games for Roma aged 33 to 34.

I'm not saying Defoe is as good as these players but do think he has similar ability as a striker and honestly think he will be a legend for the next 2 to 3 years. His age isnt a concern at all to me and I'm buzzin he chose us over other premier league clubs to end his career.

Dunno what his record was but Sheringham was excellent at around this age, and just look at what Yorke brought to the team in his twilight years, quality is quality, and although Defoe has relied more on his pace than those two the first yard or two is in the head and he's always had the intelligent movement we've missed since Bent left.

It depends on whether he's got the balance right in learning the game and using his experience to make up for declining physical attributes. An example of the two ways this can go are Shearer, who adapted his game once his pace went to great success, and Gerrard, who doggedly keeps trying to play the same way even though the legs are slowing.

Experience and a footballing brain gives some older players the edge once that bit of pace goes.....Also think that the fact he has been out of the country for a season is a good thing too, he will have that element of the unknown about him that he wouldn't have had if he had been at Spurs last year. Defoe is a fox in the box, a clever player who drifts into the right places and will get you those tap ins as well as individual moments of flair......He is an intelligent player and as already said, Lampard is brilliant at drifing off his man and finding space

Sheringham was still going at 40;
Lampard is 36 and still scores more than most strikers;
Inzaghi was scoring well into his 30s
Henry scored a few for Arsenal in his loan spell
Diego Costa is about 47 and still scoring

Sheringham was nearly 32 when he went to Man Utd (and he won the lot - oh, Teddy, Teddy...)

Also, Defoe must have had a nice rest out in Toronto and should be raring to go. Let's hope so anyway.......
