Nah I posted yday that it was a straight swap and wages wouldn't be near the figures mentioned. Be on par with AJ. ECHO running the story now. Good info from source.

ALTIDORE HEADS ACROSS THE POND

Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore was on his way to Toronto on Thursday morning as he and Jermain Defoe prepared to trade places.

The 25-year-old United States international was booked on a flight to Canada after travelling down to London from the north-east on Wednesday evening with Defoe, 32, having headed in the opposite direction.

Who said anything about bankruptcy?

FFP imposes a limit on the amount clubs can spend on wages. Even if the chairman has plenty of money to keep us afloat, we still wouldn't be able to exceed that limit.
I'm sure that Short and the people he employs to run the club are well aware of how the FFP works. In fact I think he was one of the main supporters of it, so its highly unlikely he would put us in a position where we would breach the rules.
The club can't win with some people, it gets criticism when it appears to be doing things on the cheap with loans and free transfers, now people are questioning the amount they are guessing we are paying a player.
Don't know why they can't be happy we've signed a very good goalscorer.

Screaming heard from the gents at Seaham Hall, excitement/horror of seeing Defoe from a Makem followed by a long haunted wail as saggy face emerges from a cubicle.............
