Defoe

Any link to that about Defoe having to leave first. Want to read more on that, as how come other clubs have been linked?

Add to that, In the last 5 years we've spent the 8th most amount on players and 10th net spend. We are f***ing shite in the transfer market giving our league position.
They had to get Defoe out iirc. Sure Toronto said it. They're only allowed 3 designated players. High earners They have two and are bbuying a midfielder from juventus. It was altidore or Defoe.

Another pl club could have signed Defoe, but doubt they'd have coughed up a fee. This way it's effectively a swap for us

We're in the 8th consecutive relegation fight and get crowds of 40k plus. Short inherited a club with a low debt in the richest era in Premier League history. We've had 6 managers in 8 years.

We're in far more shit than we should be in.
I but stayed in the top flight longer than anytime in my lifetime & probably since the 50's

Hold on, why are you so worried? Listen the people in charge seem to know what there doing, if they think Defoe is going to come in & do a decent job (maybe keep us up) score goals which we need desperately. Maybe they think it's a risk (if it is money wise) worth taking.
OK we keep Altidore who can't score for toffee we go down...
Now what's the best option?

Now stop worrying about the wages, fee etc

Really?

It's a top down approach, and things have been an absolute shambles since we were promoted back in 2007. A total scatter gun approach to transfers and key managerial appointments, to which ultimately the decisions fall at board level. We've spent an absolute fortune in the process yet have been in a perpetual relegation struggle.

This is why there is so much negativety no matter what approach the club take, and who can blame us fans for taking that view?

IF and its a fairly big if, we can keep Defoe fit for the rest of the season he will be a good signing. It's a lot of hope to put on one striker.

We still need another winger and a Creative CM.....doubt we'll get either this month though

I'm not that happy about the signing. I think his pace was his key but he's old now plus playing in the states he will have taken his foot off the gas so will need time to catch up again (if he ever does)
Also if we are paying even half of what's being mentioned them we are idiots.

I'd rather have Bent back

We could've load Altidore to any club in the MLS, I suspect. Weren't Lille in for him too? We couldn't get our money back, of course, but we didn't here either - Defoe isn't worth £6m.

We were led to believe that we had £14m earmarked for Borini in the summer. Assuming that was true, I'd like to think that £14m plus £80k pw could get you something better than a 32 year old from the MLS. And if it isn't, I'd sooner our short term option be a loan on £80k pw, and not a depreciating asset that we're lumbered with til 2018.

I'd have no issue at all if the contract length wasn't 3.5 years. As a panic buy, you could do a lot worse than Defoe. But his agent has pulled our trousers down with this contract.
The boring money was spent on Rodwell.

I agree the Defoe deal is a year too long, not the end of the world though. Were effectively just paying bit extra wage ontop of jozy's

I can't tell if you're being serious or not. That's what this board does to you.

We signed Rodwell on August 5th, we were pursuing Borini right up until the window closed on the 31st.

But a depreciating asset who will hopefully have a hand in us still playing Premier League football until then.

I'm not sure why anyone but the club's accountant would be bothered about what we pay players. Wickham is allegedly on £60k pw and has a grand total of 1 league goal this season.
Jozy is/was allegedly on £40k pw and will never score another goal in that league

Aye on loan. Why do you think we waited until the last day to sign Coates? We could have had him weeks earlier. Boring never wanted not come permanently and we wanted a loan, Liverpool refused.
