Am i missing something but no way are buckley and bridcut a dof signing. Ridiculous people wanting Poyet out but fair to ask questions for some of his signings and decisions.

Those 2 in particular magically coincide with the coach's opinions but in fact are defiantly Congerton signings despite Gus Poyet saying the contrary. Or at least that's what I just heard.

Poyet may not be as "Me, me, me" as Di Canio when things are going well, but Christ he is every bit as shameless in deflecting the blame when things aren't going to plan.
day he was appointed i said 'meet the new boss same as the old boss' for although he may not be as bug eyed frothing at the mouth crazy as PDC their egos are very similar..... expect him to start referring to himself in the third person any day now

Gus set the parameters for the summer business in terms of player type. Gus is on record as having final say. Gus is the one who insisted that we chase Borini to the ends of the earth. Gus got the vast majority of his first choice targets according to all of the NE press pack and its only last week that the histrionic, teflon gobshite was saying that this is now his team. Congerton gets to do the donkey work, ensure that we sign players that the club can afford and get kicked around by a git massive latin fanny from time to time.

This Oliver Twist act from managers is extremely tedious at the best of times. However, leaving aside questions of opportioning blame Gus' latest little outburst is designed to do nothing more than attempt to absolve him of blame. So Gus is established as a man who will happily damage the club to try to protect himself. It won't be his skills as a coach that end his time with SAFC, it'll be his f***ing mouth - which is the frustrating thing.
I know people have said this already, but this has been clear since he first came.

I've read through great chunks of this but have not learnt if it has yet been proven that he said what was alleged in a context that would apply to the recruitment carried out since he arrived.

Do we need to sharpen the pitchforks and ready ourselves for a march with flaming torches on the AOL or not?

Why pay for a DOF then?

To have any point a DoF has to:
a) be better than the manager at choosing and buying players the manager can work with
b) not fall out with the manager
c) stay longer than the manager so a consistent club mentality can be achieved and a manager changed without chaos.

Otherwise a DoF is just another person who can screw things up badly. ..

We need Malcolm Crosby back, he took the blame for everything even if it wasn't his fault. Loved that bloke, just the look on his face when Armstrong's goal went in against Chelsea. Totally out of his depth and totally aware of it!!

Just seems like another SMB vague shit stirring classic. Almost as bad as naughtynose's transfer "insider info" threads.

as above

Sorry!!!! But ultimately the responsibility for results and performances rest with Gus Poyet.

I'm certainly not advocating sacking him, but he should be ashamed of his team's performance yesterday

In the long run, yes. In a one off like Saturday it's entirely the players' fault. He picked as close a team as he could to the one that played well and won the game before. Those players then proceeded to play like the biggest collection of mongs ever. A manager has very little influence over his players putting the ball into their own net in as spectactularly a stupid a manner as Vergini and Bridcutt managed.

The players wanted nothing to do with it after 3 nil, and that's down to them on the day.

here u go mate

Thanks for that but have given up trying to connect tonight - firstly needed to download Flashplayer (which I hate but I did) then was told "not available for contractual reasons" (gobbldygook for p*ss off you are in Thailand) and even after activating idcloak and using a UK IP address was getting the same, so will try again when I switch everything on in the morning.

He's referring to the numbers really though, not who his squad is.
Assuming Reveillere signs we will have exactly the number of defenders that Gus stated he wanted from the outset. I doubt it will prevent him from playing this card in future, though. He could have used the development squad too. It was the perfect opportunity to develop a young player. Instead he brought on Bridcutt. That's an example of one reason why England fails to develop players.

From everything I've heard in Gus' comments during his time here I suspect that he's an absolute nightmare for Congerton. Hopefully the hierachy at the club just turn on their 'fiery latin' filter and ignore Gus' outbursts. I'd hate for his git big pie hole to talk him out of the job as he can do very well here if he learns to button it.

We need a manager who's willing to stick up for himself tbh. Too many have meekly accepted what's been given to them and then said nowt or been gagged when sacked. Honesty forces people to do their jobs properly, and I hope the other staff are as honest with Poyet as to his shortcomings.
