Everton Fans Thoughts on Rodwell

I think he'll be our Huddlestone. That is to say, a notable improvement, and probably the best we're likely to get. But he was never good enough for City and it wasn't as though he was as revolutionary as say Artea was for Everton when he was there. He's a good player, and that will improve us a lot, but people are talking as though he's going to take our game to a whole new level, like he's going to make the whole team better, whereas I think he's just going to add a lot of polish to it. Good signing assuming he's fit though, no question.

They spent £12m and wages fees etc to meet a quota? when they couldve promoted a nee body for free from there reserves? i i believe you like.

He wasn't good enough for City, as evidenced by the fact he barely played for them. That's not to say he isn't a good player. But the city thing is a false analogy. Scott Sinclair isn't good enough for City either, he was signed for a similar amount though and played a similar amount of times.

I didnt say he was, im saying they signed him thinking and rating he was, rather than some quota filler ffs they could get that for nowt from the youth squads, city have money but in an age of ffp even they wouldnt have spunked that kind of money knowing he wasnt going to cut it and only as filler. He might have made it there had he been fit more, they also changed managers in the time period too did they not?.

Is this the same stance where you accused Villa fans of being bitter when you appointed O'Neill when they warned you of his flaws and when you accused Swindon fans of being bitter when they warned you of Di Canio's flaws?

Rodwell is a good player when fit, of that there is no doubt but don't to be so unobjectionable. Especially when it is people that have viewed him a lot that are reviewing his ability. That mistake was made with O'Neill and Di Canio in the past.

Well yes but lets say we were signing Fatem from you lot. We wouldnt know which player we were getting depending on which week we were signing him, cos one week he was the worlds greatest, and the next utter shite. Saying that, yous go on that way about most of your players tbf.

this YouTube clip is probably seb but would support what Ajax is saying. Plays deep and knocks the ball on to another player. He does one lovely pass over the top and seems decent in the air but doesn't do a whole lot Cattermole or any other professional footballer couldn't do. Saying that you can only play the position you've been given so it is difficult to judge.

I get the impression they do it as a sort of aggressive buyout, the way a big firm will quickly pay off an upcoming competitor and absorb them to save them a *potential* headache down the road. It's not so much about bringing the player on as neutralising another club's capacity to do so I think and either prove more expensive down the line or strengthen a rival. He's also the sort of player that Man U were hoovering up at the same time so it might have just been to keep them at bay as well.

No question he has potential of course. Or certainly did. Hopefully that time on the bench hasn't soured it. Like i say though, I'm pleased, think it's a good signing.

Ive had it in the neck about how mint there summer transfers have been, yet when i ask how much dutch football they watch they say none. Also a few took the piss about van the man we signed when he was one of the best full backs in that league the one they just signed a full back from ffs. Fickle loony fuckers mags man.

Happens all the time, don't know how you can't believe it? City are the worst for doing it.

I don't think we're signing him to play as deep as he was deployed to do so on that video. We're well covered with Cattermole and Bridcutt in that position. He'll be playing similarly to where Colback and Larsson were in our good run in, in my opinion.

"Hopefully he does well at Sunderland and we'll buy him back when we need a replacement for Barry."

LOL,,,,,, from an Everton fan, WTF

Wouldn't take too much notice of them like, I think he's decent, great passing range, great shot on him and can pick up the ball and charge past players, very strong aswel. He reminds me a little bit of Huddlestone from Hull in terms of the way he plays. Quite worrying about his injury record like, IF we can get him playing week in week out we could have a very good player on our hands.

The Huddlestone comparison is an interesting one. Not in terms of style of play but last season when Huddlestone was heavily linked everyone said they wouldn't want him due to his injury record - he went on and had a hell of a season for Hull - though that obviously offers no guarantees regarding Rodwell it does show that players with previously poor injury records can overcome them.

I wouldn't really compare him to Huddlestone tbh, I think they are quite different players. I would say Rodwell is more like Henderson than anyone.

Hes playing like that cos thats the position hes being asked to play in that game, a but like cattermole does here.

Rodwell can play anywhere in the middle and to decide thats what his whole game is based around after watching 4 minutes is ridiculous
Especially when theres clips of him bursting into the box for man city and getting 2 against norwich
