Borini

I'd be disappointed about this particular deal but looking at the larger picture i'd just be depressed about the state of the game as a whole. This two tier system where the gap between teams that have a chance of champions league football and the teams that don't just gets bigger and bigger every year. It's got to the point where a champions league club in a tin pot league like Holland or Portugal can attract better players than a mid table premier league team.

The FFP rules have been brought in just to shore up the two tiers and make sure no more clubs can realistically break into the upper tier.

The whole basic problem with the game is that the power is in the hands of the big clubs and not the footballing authorities, in actual fact the big clubs are the footballing authorities by all but name.

It hasn't.

Boo the fuck out of him. If he isn't with us he is against us. Shouldn't be taking the piss with his tweeting either.

Do you also think it's strange that his profile pic is one of him in red and white? You're reading too much into that tweet.

I don't use Twitter so haven't seen the tweet or the profile pic.

Could someone please post both so I (and others) can see what is being talked about?

Thanks in advance.

I just think it's odd that we've made the bid without knowing if he is open to playing for us - you'd have thought that discussion would have taken place

In the cold light of day, taking a few days to think about a life changing career decision is not to be unexpected. But as in all forms of recruitment, you'd have thought a conversation would have taken place between SAFC & Borini / his agent before launching a £14m bid.

The problem is Rodgers when asked by Borini face to face if he's still wanted at Liverpool says yes. He even plays him in all the friendlies. Rodgers is the sticking point no one else.

So you're advocating tapping him up?

You need to have a bid accepted before talking to a player. As will have already been said, this has happened several times in the past where we have had bids accepted and the player ultimately has decided against signing for this club. This process doesn't change just because the lad played here last season. Sunderland will have had no contact with Borini himself. Maybe the agent gave out some sound bites, which is in no way an indication of the player's actual intentions.

Another one i keep hearing is he will still be sorting his loyalty bonus out so does not want to appear too eager to leave. Surely, any pay-off can not be comprimised seen as the club made the decision to accept a bid.

And it comes out that it's 'cause he wants to stay with Liverpool to fight for his place, play Champions' League, etc. etc. how will you react towards him when Liverpool play at the SOL?
I won't react to it, if he wants to stay or not come here he has every right to say no what I have a problem with is him f***ing about when he knows we are interested and paid the fee. If he wants to mess about waiting for clubs we should withdraw the bid right away and start looking elsewhere before it's to late. For a player who said "a piece of my heart will be with Sunderland" he has a funny way of showing it.

Too many people think it's Football Manager. Poyet said at Saturday tea-time that we were waiting for some paperwork before proceeding so I'd guess we'll start talking to his representatives today and it'll take a day or two to sort. If Borini had said he wasn't interested formally I reckon we would have heard from SAFC by now. I'm still pretty confident he'll come.

People don't want the facts mate, they just want to predict doom and gloom and stick the boot in to the Club for being an unprofessional outfit.

That's pretty naive.

We had him for a full season last year and will have his agent's number on speed dial. Do you think the the club just hoy bids in for players without doing any background research on whether the player would be interested, how long a deal they'd be looking for, what sort of salary they'd want? Why spend days, weeks or month trying to negotiate a fee (and payment terms / structure) just for the player to turn around and say he's not interested or for the salary to be too rich?
