Anyone that thinks Keane took over a worse problem than Reid doesn't have any idea about the club IMHO.Roy Keane took over when the club was the lowest it had been for decades.
We had just been humiliated in the league and were looking nailed on for relegation the next season after losing all our games.
He came in and immediately lifted everyone from the staff to the fans.
Not only that but he turned things around and got the shower of shite we wre promoted at the first attempt.
He then went on to spend £60m turning us into an actual premier league side. The tv money for one season will have covered that.
Yes he threw money at a problem but other managers have tried that and still failed.
Anyone who knocks what Keane did doesn't have SAFC truly at heart IMOIMO
Mr Jardine - shocked - did you use the F word? Is that a " if you can't beat em, join em moment"And without short reigning the egotistical fooka in we could have been another Portsmouth!

You said the worst situation for decades. He came in just over ten year after Reid did. Denis smith also took over a worse situation which was again under 20 year so again not decades Bonny lad.Where did I mention Reids job like?

As I said Bruce wasn't blameless it just baffles me how keane is so revered yet I believe every manager since has had to pay for his 'scattergun' signings. Bruceys record in market wasn't all that bad when look at it.It is far from difficult to believe we are in a rut as players want a north east tax to come to us. Hence ridiculous wages for rubbish players. Bruce gets slagged not only because of his scattergun signings but his inability to manage them. He once fielded a team with no forwards in a cup game.
No disrespect but can you really remember the mcmenemy era and the state we were in? Or even how we flirted with relegation to the third tier again in just about every season during 90s until Reid came in?The 15 point season and the aftermath was the worst situation I've seen in my lifetime.
That doesn't detract from Reids job.
The whole club was shot to bits.
I have no idea why Peter Reid has been brought into this now but anyway. Comparing the achievements of both based on what they spent is a non-starter. They arrived at the club ten years apart and the finances needed to succeed at those different times is beyond imagineable.Came in at right time and left us in a mess. Peter Reid came in when we were staring relegation in face. He kept us up then won promotion next season with no money at all. We were a lot lower when he came in believe me.

Richardson was a decent signing played for years and contributed. Our top premier league appearance maker in bardsley for a reasonable fee. Please explain what remotely looks acceptable to you on this.
Cheers Boilermaker
Short short memories mind. As I've said the 90s were absolutely shocking until reids arrival. Low gates, constant flirting with the third tier,a chairman with no financial clout.I have no idea why Peter Reid has been brought into this now but anyway. Whether we were at a lower point is debatable. I think a good 80-85% would say we were at a lower point after the 15 point season.

As I've said keane done very well in taking us up but his record in market was an utter disgrace in my opinion. Yes he kept us up but so he should with money he had.
He won't listen to this though.Did keane negotiate the transfer fees himself?
Didn't think so.
I'm not comparing. You're the one comparing. I said Roy Keane is the 2nd most important figure in our last 10 years. Therefore Reidy does not fit the criteria to be included.Short short is emories mind. As I've said the 90s were absolutely shocking until reids arrival. Low gates, constant flirting with the third tier,a chairman with no financial clout.
Keane took over a side in a lovely new stadium with financial backing.
No comparison at all.
No but you did say the lowest point for decades which then naturally brought up comparisons with those decades and the people involved.Of course I can't, I can only go off what I see and that's why I said "in my lifetime".
In the two decades I'd followed the lads it was the lowest I remember the club being.
I didn't bring Reid or Lawrie Mac into it.
Regardless, I'll always love Keane for what he did to me and the club.
Not everyone will agree, that's what is so great about football.
