Roy Keane a pariah?

He won't listen to this though.

I'm not comparing. You're the one comparing. I said Roy Keane is the 2nd most important figure in our last 10 years. Therefore Reidy does not fit the criteria to be included.
How many times man!!! I know he doesn't but he has an idea of budget and knows impact of what signing player a for 9m will have on the possibility of bringing in player b and c.
Good grief!!

Yes. I'd been a fan for 20 odd years. That's decades marra. Plural.
Well then you'd remember the Early 90s then playing in front of 12 and 13,000 crowds whilst getting humped at home to the southends and brentfords of this world?
Keane inherited a paradise in comparison to that.

Of course I can't, I can only go off what I see and that's why I said "in my lifetime".

In the two decades I'd followed the lads it was the lowest I remember the club being.

I didn't bring Reid or Lawrie Mac into it.

Regardless, I'll always love Keane for what he did to me and the club.

Not everyone will agree, that's what is so great about football.
For me Keane's appointment was a surprise to all...and what he achieved in his early days in management equally a surprise. If he spent a bit of money and made some mistakes without the right guidance, also not a surprise. Bruce another kettle of fish...he was supposed to be a seasoned manager with greater experience. When the threats of relegation have come recently, I can only imagine it will be like it was under Keane in the championship....bit of football, goals, results and a buzz about the place. Only in the last couple of games last season have I really enjoyed it so much since...

A chap posted on here the other day a really good link regarding our expenditure since our return to the promised land.
Really didn't make pretty reading for the Roy Keane fans mind. Over 60m spent in two seasons with very little coming back in.
Is this perhaps the reason we find ourselves in the position we do in regards to the apparent prudence being shown in the market?
I appreciate the job he done in getting us up when on our knees but his devil may care attitude towards the club I believe cost us our one big chance to actually make some decent strides in the top flight.
That level of financing is unprecedented at our club. Fat brucey seems to cop the majority of flak and he isn't blameless but I think Keane gets a free ride from our fans and his reign needs to be scrutinised further I believe.

My point is always the same.

There are 24 teams in the Championship who would dearly love someone to come in and give the manager £60 million to spunk on gaining promotion to the Premier League and staying there.

There was not a lot moaning about the money being spent at that time, with supporters celebrating winning the Championship considering the position we were in when he arrived.

He was given a target and the tools to achieve it. What more could we have asked of the backers at that time.

Its 10 years since Leeds United last played in the Premier League. Bet their supports wish they could be given the chance of giving Roy the job with £60/70 million to spend.

I'm not knocking the money that was thrown at it I'm knocking what it was actually spent on!

Why worry about it. He got us up & kept us up. Had some magic away days under Keano. It's 6 years ago move on.
Because as I said in the initial post I believe it's because of that lavish spending and almost no return we find ourselves being financially hamstrung now. If you don't care then that's fine but don't go grumbling when Short is trying to balance the books during the next 6 weeks.

When Keane came in we were bottom of the Championship man! Nil points. Utter disarray.

I can't see how bringing Gordon into it so much backs your argument up. He got incredibly unlucky with injuries before potentially his best years.

I'm sure he was a bully who threatened to walk if he didn't get the money for the players he wanted. And he still walked ...

Short's a billionaire & the new TV money Sunderland are getting dwarfs anything Keane spent. I very much doubt a few million spent by Keane years ago will make any difference to his current investment.

I was using Bent and Gyan as examples of status being irrelevant when it comes to making a move. I think villa were below us when he left for them and as for Gyans new club??
Don't get too caught up in the whole club status stuff as it's money that will always ultimately talk.

Yes. And it takes even more cash to get them up here.

We had no other choice at the time

We'd come back up after a very humiliating time and players were reluctant to join us.

I'll always love the radged bastard for the faith he restored in me toward the club
we had no choice but spend 12 m on tainio and chimbonda?
8.5m on anton
4.5 on prmacrock mccartney
2m + each on halford,macshane,healy
stoke came up the same time and didn't spend anywhere near what we spent getting promoted and spent bugger all in comparison in the 2 years after
rk is the emperors new clothes. A long line of fine player..dud manager

All players and agents are fully aware of this
