So obviously a wind up even I can tell it is.
Southampton have consistently finished above Sunderland ower the last 40yrs or so. Our days of being considered a far bigger club than Southampton finished a long long time ago. However much we dont like it they are on a level with us now and have been for ages.
There may not be too much in it performance wise on the pitch but in all other aspects, ie, ground, home support, away support, training facilities we are very much bigger than them.

In terms of the quality of players that they have had, Saints have been well above us in recent years, and particularly impressive has been the home grown talent that they've brought through. Whilst they don't have those players now at least selling them has funded improvements at their club.

Just because our ground was built bigger than some, that isn't enough to call us a bigger club. Half the time it looks half empty on match day and we are selling tickets at a very much lower level than a lot of 'comparable' clubs because without doing so match day attendances would be even lower.

All that matter is what happens on the pitch though really doesn't it, that and how much you can pay players. As things stand Southampton are probably a more attractive proposition for players than us. A couple of good seasons though and we could see that change.

Sick of idiots like you running down my football club.
Sunderland always has been and still is a bigger football club than Southampton.
Full stop!

You obviously quoted the wrong lad but agree entirely with sentiment.

Fuck any stats and anyones opinion, safc are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen ;)

I mean aren't we meant to be biased, partizan if you like? Fuck all this "they're a bigger club than us cos of their average league position over the last 40 years is better than ours", I mean who really gives a fuck!

Exactly!

Plus we have been champions of England 6 times compared to their????:D
We have much bigger gates and always have had.
Plus our accents are better and we are cooler and that!

I was disputing that you so readily consider them so superior to us ( consistently finished above us ).
I said we were both yo yo clubs.
Overall I was trying to put across the point that there's no reason for Borini to compare the clubs and come to the conclusion that Soton are some sort of football behemoth and we're just a football 'fly in the ointment'.
The past 40 years neither club has done much to celebrate

Where do I say this?
Im saying our six titles etc are so far back in history to be irrelevant. Lets consider the timespan since we both last won owt which iirc is early/mid 70s. Who has the highest average finish? Who has finished as top dogs most? etc etc etc. We are on a par with Southampton in the modern era whether we like it or not.
For the record I consider SAFC to be currently one of the 12 biggest clubs in England mainly by virtue of our history. Southampton are as near as dammit one anarl and theyve got a Boro sized trophy cabinet to back them up! Potential wise we leave them standing, but we've been talkin about potential in the same breath as SAFC for nigh on 80yrs now. Eventually potential becomes pie in the sky.
Anyone who considers Southampton to be a less tempting a proposition for the 21st century footballer than SAFC needs to take their head out of their arse and smell the coffee. For SAFC fans to look down on Southampton FC is arrogance and self entitlement of almost maglike proportions. Wimbledon, Boro, Brum, Wigan, Norwich, Pompey, Southampton etc etc have won trophies since the last time we did. SAFC fans have nowt to crow about and the sooner we ALL acknowledge the fact the sooner we can get down to making SAFC great again.

signing Markovic and Origi over the next few days and they wnt be the last of the attacking players

Cannot see Borini getting a look in at Liverpool

They were in league 1 only a few years ago man.

They were in league 1 3/4 years ago.
Compare the last 40yrs etc etc

Sunderland is and has always been a much bigger club than Southampton. Just as we are a much bigger club than Portsmouth, Fulham, Boro etc, although in the past posters on here have been only too willing to argue the contrary.
Last 40yrs etc etc

What

What about 40yrs worth of league positions? This whole discussion stems from Borini possibly having a choice and as far as he is concerned theres nee difference. If SAFC had cobbled together a few good players ala soton in the last few years then we'd be selling them off anarl. Dont kid yerselves.
We're (100yrs of history apart) as near as dammit in the same category of club as Soton as far as any 21st century footballer is concerned. IE makeweights in the PL.

Reckon we were champions in 1936 will be the clincher.

Exaclty this;

Noone gives a flying fuck what we have or haven't won even as recently as 10 years ago - the only thing that matters to almost all footballers without exception is money (same as me when I move jobs, generally, I want to increase my earnings), to most of them a chance of future success and to absolutely f***ing none of them, how many titles a team has won in its entire history.

It's fine for us as supporters to be proud of the achievements of our club, but you need to get your head out of your arse if you think potential signing give a shiny shite about it.

Last 40yrs etc etc

.
For the last 100 years and almost certainly for the next hundred too.
But we do both love Billy Bragg so at least we can find some common ground.

Ive nivver once mentioned loving Billy Bragg either. Hes made half a dozen songs I can listen to in ower 30yrs. ffs the Spice Girls and Take That and Girls Aloud can almost match that between them.

Borini would be an excellent buy for the club. Improved his all round game throughout the season and his work rate is second to none.
