That will be 'The Colonel's' son Harry (I would guess), he is a very good prospect along with one or two other very good young players at APCC!
That sort of mind set and skill in one so young to bat that long, has to be admired and applauded!!!

Does Colonal not get on any more? Used to quite like his craic.

Is this why teams are turning up with shit attitudes towards us?? Some of the crack last week was rediculous - one of your lads claiming we were "shite bowlers" after he'd had his stumps splattered was bordering on comical.
I don't see how admitting you have the best team in terms of strength and depth is showing a "shit attitude" to be honest.

Good weekend for Houghton.

First team finally managed to get some play after two away games rained off and a free week. Defended 109 with 25 runs to spare on Saturday, very good result for us against last seasons league winners Beamish, especially as we were a bit green (definitely with the bat).

Pitch had flattened out yesterday and outfield rapidly quickened up from Saturday (amazing what 24 hours of decent weather does) and we chased down Wearmouth's 203 with 5 overs to spare. Fairly kind declaration from the Wearmouth skipper after 40 overs, unaware of the NEDL rules having come from the Durham League (think we did this when we came into NEDL a few year ago as well). Maybe underestimated our batting side a little bit too. Two of our new signings made big impact with bat and ball in both games and the old guard chipped in as well.

Second team off to a good start as well. A fairly young side with four new lads on debut went to Beamish and won there. Seconds have won both of the games played and sit at the top of the league and although its early doors its a good start for a brand new side.

Hopefully our bar will be back open within a few weeks as well, couple of delays holding it back but things are finally starting to look up after a difficult few years (could argue a decade or more!).

Its also worth saying that 13 of the 22 who played for us at the weekend had represented our junior section in years gone by as well. Really shows the importance of having one, and hopefully we'll be back in business with a new committee next season after a year out (after last years shenanigans we want to get it right).

Anyhow, Littletown next week. Looking at the league table, both clubs off to a good start this season, maybe surprising a few of the sides that have dominated in recent seasons. Hopefully a good contest played in a decent spirit (meaning next weeks thread doesnt end up like this weeks  )

Bit more detail provided than requested by the OP so apologies!

Erm, this thread is incorrectly titled. No one is interested in each others results, we're only bothered about bitchin and snipin. Stick to the rules pls

Anyone got any midweek cup games? Saw Littletown were playing tonight on that their twitter thingy. Can't remember who against and too lazy to trawl through tweets.

We've got Beamish away on Wednesday. Always a good place to go is Beamish, hope we can put up a good show.

Good stuff mate - good to see Houghton back on the up.Looks like the games at the weekend will be good uns!!

Aye the two Sunday teams are a mix, from the players who could play at a higher/better league when they're a bit older to the bottom feeders like who just like to pretend they're git mint. With two Sunday teams you'd probably get a game, perhaps even on a Saturday. I mean hell, even I've turned out on a Saturday over the years!

But aye, fist bumping is a crucial part of our team ethos and doesn't happen at any other club, it's ours and ours alone, fella!

For the benefit of the younger poster, fist bumping and shouting 'fella' is for knackers and is no way localised to Wearmouth but part of a much wider national problem (worse than spot fixing IMO as that hurts no one). I suggest that you read up on the work of Fred Boycott before playing your first game

Greavsie the next time i'm batting with you its going to be fist bumps arl ower the shop ;-)

BTW i agree its for knackers.

Was batting with someone last year in me first game for Littletown (might have been Pete). End of first over, he charged down the wicket, extended his arm and made a bumping gesture. I just said:"What the fuck you doing?" but the look on his face was such hurt. Like I'd just made the decision to shit on the wicket mid over. I have recently tried to be more conscious of the needs of team mates to behave like tits and have even humoured this silliness on occasions.

I have a similar tale involving a team huddle that I was was once invited to join but that might need to wait for another time.

If you're based in Seaburn then your best bet would, depending on ability:

Top class pro: Littletown
Decent: Whitburn
Anything else: Wearmouth/Simonside.

At least you found your best place in the end!!

you playing on Sunday mate?

what's with all the trash talk anarl?

and a meal, then a party if you gonna play get on with it man, Summers here. wait til next year that'll be about 6 years you been making your mind up.. not sure if it too late to sign for a team now tho. sure Aleem will know.
