Never mind letting Myburgh go, if there's anyone who it looks like a mistake to let go it's Will Gidman, he's been excellent for Gloucestershire the last couple of seasons.

Invariably, if you don't strengthen your squad then you go backwards. We overachieved last season but I was always concerned we would end up struggling this year, particularly without Stokes.

Couldn't agree more. We lost a couple of useful players and added nobody. Hopefully the arrival of Hastings will change our fortunes. Although questions will be raised as to why we only signed a player for half a season.

As opposed to someone for the full term.

Rushworth gets Hildreth. 132-4.

It's just the way the overseas calendar is now, personally I would ban teams from making overseas changes during a season so they could only pick one, as it would encourage teams to go and sign an overseas player for the full season, and those are generally the types who stick with a club and gain an affinity with them.

The best overseas players last year were Hogan and Magoffin at Glamorgan and Sussex, both spent full seasons there, as did Klinger at Gloucestershire who scored 2000 runs in all formats. All 3 are back for this season too.

The real trick is to get good up and coming players who have been overlooked by their national selectors - along the lines of North and Katich. You can pretty much guarantee a full season out of them and they know if they do well in England, they'll get noticed.

People cite that it has much to do with the IPL but there are surely plenty of quality 'proper' cricketers around the world who don't participate in the IPL.

We should know more than most that it's possible to get a young Aussie for example who can prove a valuable asset.

Great start after Lunch. Whatever was in the scones must have done the trick :D. Still need rid of Petersen though.

Chris Rodgers for Middlesex is one of the better overseas signings imo. Goes quietly about his batting and seems to regulary hit decent scores
